I live in middle tennesse, and our tap water stinks. Even carbon-filtered it tastes yucky. I've never liked most bottled water, because it usually tastes "dead" to me, but the solution I've found : I buy 2.5 gal containers of "good" drinking water and drink it with lemon for the taste, and usually just use carbon-filtered water for cooking with. What do you do?
well, I come from new zealand and our tap water, for the most part, tastes better then the bottles stuff. But sometimes there's too much chlorine in the water and I can't drink it so I add juice.
I used to drink nothing but distilled bottled water, but that all changed when I got a filter hooked up to my kitchen sink. It took a little getting used to, but now I would never go back. We have a well, so I'm literally drinking the water right out from under me. It's interesting--the flavor of the water subtley changes every now and then, as if the proportions of minerals change. A week or so after a huge rainstorm, we had the BEST tasting water I've had.
i live in vermont and drink the tap water...did the same in connecticut. When i go to florida, i'll use a filter..
i drink bottled but only dasani brand. it tastes better than any other brand of water...dont know why.
tap water.. just taste really hard.. or bottled stuff.. either the fiji water or hawaii water i think the hawaii taste best
I like Dasani as well, but I like the flavored water, especially the lemon. It has splenda in it; is there any health risks associated with it? I haven't heard of any, but just wondering if anyone else has. Sorry that's a bit off topic... Peace & love
Is it? where did you hear that? the coca cola company makes it.....if it is tap water than london has some great tasting tap water.
it was big news within the past few years.. http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=10229 UK: Coca-Cola Admits Dasani is Tap Water by Trevor Datson, Reuters March 4th, 2004 LONDON - It made for great headlines, but the fact that the UK version of Coca-Cola's Dasani brand bottled water comes out of the London public supply should hardly have come as a surprise. "Coke's in hot water," "Eau dear" and "The real sting" were three good examples of the newspaper headline writer's art, but the only real difference between Dasani and many other bottled waters is that the humble origin of the product is firmly in the spotlight. Figures from independent beverage research company Canadean show that at least two out of every five bottles of water sold around the world are, like Dasani, "purified" waters, rather than "source" waters which originate from a spring. Most of the supermarket own-label bottled waters consist of treated mains water. They may be dechlorinated, filtered further, purified using ultraviolet light and have minerals either added or subtracted. They may also be carbonated. In short, they are subjected to many of the same treatments that source waters undergo to satisfy public health requirements after being pumped up from the ground. Alongside flagship brands such as Evian, Perrier, and Malvern, most of the big-name water producers market several purified water lines, often in countries where the safety of the public water supply is a concern. Nestle's Pure Life is one such leading brand and PepsiCo's Aquafina is another, while Danone's Sparkletts and Alhambra marques are top sellers in the United States, where mains water purity is not usually an issue. You also have mixed source waters, like Nestle's Aquarel, which comes from seven different springs. Such spring water is cheaper to produce and therefore to sell, and has proved a big hit with consumers in Europe and elsewhere. But generally speaking, anything that doesn't say "source" or "spring" on the label is just fancy tap water.
Only bottled water. We have a private well on our property, and the water is not good at all. We all got E Coli from it once, because a business a few blocks away didn't cap their well properly, and E Coli got into the water that everyone drank. One mother in our neighborhood had a formula fed baby at the time, and she was mixing the water with the powder formula, and the baby ended up in the hospital. The rest of us just had months of the shits. Terrible. I will cook pasta in our tap water (it boils and kills any germs) but anything where you will be taking in a lot of water (like rice or kashi) I still use bottled for cooking. There is a lot of rust and iron and sulphur in our water, so it is basically not drinkable. I usually buy whatever water is on sale at the time. We have a family of 6, so it gets expensive, but we can usually get water for about $1.00 a gallon. We use at least 2-3 gallons a day, for drinking and cooking. That comes out to 14 or more gallons a week. A large part of our food budget, but the well water here is not good at all.
Ever since I stopped drinking soda a couple years back, I do my damndest NOT to support those companies. On the rare occasion that I do buy individually bottled drinks, I pay very close attention to the bottling companies/distributers. These days most of my drink comes from 2.5 gal "good" water jugs, gallon juice (apple or orange) and home-brewed tea. Once in a blue moon I'll drink milk or coffee. ...My bf is still hooked on SoBe, just on days he goes to work. Lemme tell you though, in the last five years I've quit on my nicotine and alcohol addictions - and neither one compared to the painful withdrawl I went through when I quit MOUNTAIN DEW!
The water I buy does not come from pop companies. We usually buy the Jewel brand water (supermarket) or Dannon, if it is on sale. Buying it in those little 18 oz bottles would be prohibitively expensive. I only buy gallons, or 2.5 gallon bottles. We have looked into delivered water, like Hinkley Springs (sp) but it is really expensive. With a family this large, we do need quality, but price is important, too. I also buy what we call "car water." I buy a generic case of bottles of 18 or 20 oz. bottles for people to drink when we are out. Saves money on pop (which my little one doesn't drink, and I'd rather my older ones don't drink it) and is convenient. If I am in a store, and forgot to get "car water" I may buy a cold bottle of Aquafina or Evian. But, that isn't common.
Did you know that the reason bottled water tastes flat is becaus eit needs to be re-oxygenated (sp?)? Try pouring the water from one cup to another from a height of a foot or so up from the cup, so it sloshes real good. That might improve the taste for ya! I drink most of my water from my hall bathroom tap. For some reason it comes out colder there, and I like my water to be running while I drink it, weird huh? Most time I drink it right from my hand or else from a cup I keep by the sink. Does anyone else drink from the hand?
yes ive got a horrible addiction to coca cola and i drink at least 5 cans a day. i dont think its just the caffine because other caffinated drinks wont do.....has to be coca cola. i wish i could stop. it IS harder than quitting cigs.....ive atleast done that successfully once.
The best water I've drank in the last couple of years was reverse-osmosis filtered - I wish I could afford a system of my own! Stop drinking it! Your kidneys will be grateful! Seriously, all the chemicals in soda, from caffeine, to sugar, to artificial colors, and everything else, are HORRIBLE! I'm seriously disturbed by the way that these drinks have taken hold of society as a totally acceptable, refreshing drink! People think I'm weird because I stay away from the stuff, but you know what I think is "weird"? All the people I see every day with young children walking around drinking the crap! Yargh!!! Okay I'll shut up now...
They switched most everyone from well water to surface (lake) water up and down the Coast cuz we were all sinking. Now after a rain all the tap water looks/smells/tastes like mud...
