Well, I always loved dogs, and nows the time to get one again, so, what's a good breed? I like golden retrievers, but I've heard dogs with long fur are a bad idea.

Staffies, that's the one my dad was highly recommending me. What's it like though, big or small dog? I like big dogs. I've already had a black lab, had to give him away. And definitely not a bull terrier, got attacked by one of those when I was a kid.

A mutt, they feel far more unique :D Those dogs of specific breeds all look just like eachother man, just not fun. And if you're walking the dog at a place with lots of different dogs of the same breed you might get home with another dog! That said, German shepherds are my favourite breed, along with the Stabij: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabyhoun
Hm, it says they're rare but they're very common around here in the countryside.

how about a dog with long hair instead of fur?

coton de toulears. they live to entertain, are excellent companions. they adapt to whatever living conditions you have. they're freaky smart, don't require huge amounts of exercise, but like it if you do.

and like i said, they have HAIR instead of fur. it's so easy to care for.

i LOVE those dogs. freaking awesome. how'd it do in the GA heat? some people i babysat for had two of them. one was as big as their couch. and the kids could merrily climb all over them.

So far I've had a German Shepherd, A rottie, a staffy cross healer or something, and a maltese cross shi tzu cross staffy. All great breeds but it all depends on what sort of propery you have, and how much time you have to spend on them.

It was off of an episode of NCIS a while back. Sort of reminds me of something you'd see on the cover of a thriller or a crime novel

yeah. i mean, he doesn't necessarily look dead, but he looks shadey and he looks like he doesn't belong in that house. like he broke in and is napping while waiting for the owner to get home.

    and cotons are CHICK MAGNETS.

plus, they play fetch. with little training. they're like little circus dogs.

I have a black lab now. Good dog.

But I've always wanted a husky, or something mostly wolf.

Otherwise, my lab will be just fine. I've got almost a grand into her as it is, I'm not spending any more money on animals for at least a year

Get a mixed breed. I have a staffie and beagle cross and she's the best dog ever. :D

Also, go visit your local rescue shelter, they're full of great dogs that need good homes.

Get a golden retriever if you like this breed.
I suppose it's all about the amount of time you wish or are able to dedicate to cleaning the dog's long fur.

I dearly hope you adopt a dog that needs saving; you'll feel better about it, and it'll probably be a better dog.

I'm gonna throw in a vote for greyhounds. If there's dog racing in your area, there will be a greyhound rescue league. Retired greyhounds are terrific animals: they tend to be smart, gentle, affectionate dogs who're thrilled to be adopted. They're not hyper; if you take them out to a park they'll sprint madly around the place for about 30 seconds and that's pretty much the end of it.

They also don't shed. And they're perfectly suited to your GA heat.
