has anyone heard the song white rabbit by jefferson airplanes back in 1967 and if so what is the song about drugs? or what idk its a cool song but its really short
I would guess it is about eating magic mushrooms, considering the line : "And you just had some kind of mushroom..."
In reality, other than the scence with the caterpillar, absolutley nothing, considering that the movie is not very psychedelic but rather a result of a man's pedophile tendencies being projected in a very bizarre, unchild like manner. I actually have a very negative opinion of the film and the book, but that's just how I see it. Psychedelic mushrooms do not make you rise and shrink, that would me more attributed to amanita mushrooms, which are psychedelic but an entirley different trip. Entirely. Though it's fun to make drug referecnes like Grace Slick did in the song, the reality is that it just isnt like that. Save for the caterpillar, who may very well have been smoking opium, considering that laundem and raw opium, as well as refined morphine, were prevelant forms of medication in the time period that the book was written.
Yea your probably right. The only reason I think it may be opium is because of the obvious, which I already listed, the other is because of the way he tells the story using smokey dream imagery, as well as the highly relaxed yet easily irritated mood he appears to be in. But yea, its just a guess as no one will ever really know!
Here's the lyrics, if you were wondering. One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all; Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall. And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall; Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call; To call Alice, when she was just small. When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go; And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low; Go ask Alice, I think she'll know. When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead; And the white knight is talking backwards; And the red queen's off with her head; Remember what the dormouse said, Feed your head, feed your head Now tell me it's not about drugs. Come on, feed your head.
