About an hour ago, some friends and I were having a baked conversation and started wondering what art is to people. I mean, there are so many different styles and forms of art - but if you strip it down to the bare minimum without all the pretentious bullshit, there must be some links between it all, so now I'm asking you arty HFers Personally, whenever I paint/draw it's me time. It's a complete shut off from the world.. like "active meditation", it's just between me and my paper/canvas and I couldn't give a shit about anything else during that time. I love the fact that I can paint something differently to what's actually there(messing with colours, perspective, lighting etc.) and people can still recognise what it is. I love fucking with perception, although I want to get a lot better at it. The mind is such an easy thing to fuck with, but so fuckin' hard at the same time. Something else that turns me on is the fact that I can put something that nobody has ever seen before, and make them see the picture what I was looking at or imagining. Sometimes something that even I wasn't expecting, and I just went along with some crazy idea that happened to turn out ok! Then observing art. I just love looking at how people have done certain things, and trying to figure out why it's fucking with your head to make it look right. Impressionism, although not my preferred style to paint(at the moment, cos I can't do it properly ) is bliss to look at. So yeah, this post might be edited tomorrow cos I think I can word things a bit better than I have done, but can't be assed sifting through it at the moment... :sifone:
Art is the creation of an essence of imagination which is exhibited as a release of expression. Appreciation is subjective to the taste of the beholder - meThinks
To me, art is an outward expression, through some kind of medium, of something conceived of from within.
