 I do nothing now. I spent 10 years as a orivate duty nurse, then switched over to medical insurance and worked for the corporate nazis for another 25 years. They finally fired my ass for being too old and sick so now I get disability. I always felt that being meat for the corporate grinder was a cop out, my ideals are different than that. My last few years of work were working on detecting insurance fraud, so I got to go after the bad guys of medicine, the ones who milk the system. That part did not feel too bad. I had to work, had three kids on my own and had no choice, I was a rebel at heart, but.... I never felt that I fit into that role, I have both arms tatooed from the elbow up and got lots of strange glances in meetings if anyone noticed. Now I am free to be myself and am loving it.

I only do what I really want to do.

Took many years to get to that point but it was worth it.

Now i can paint, and I sell a few here and there, by living simply we don't need much by way of money.

I don't do anything! Not really. My old man works and we get by on what he makes. I'm the cook and head bottle washer.

    ayyyyyyo funk .
i think about that a lot too... especially with goign into college next year....

i have no clue what i want to do for a living... for the next many many years.
i want to become a teacher, but even that... for decades.... waking up at 6 every morning... i mean... my passions and loves for teaching can fill up this forums... but there are SO many down sides to just.... working....
i'm lazy, i think is what it is... and i dont want to do anything but take walks around, hang out on the bed listening to music, or petting my cats...
i've been considering homeless by will... i know it'd be beautiful for a very long time, but inevitably i know i will be older, and it wont be as easy, and i know then... a time where i will inevitablyl be living through present's perspective... i know then i'll be suffering... and i care aboutthat alot. i'm very lost with occupation =(

I stay home and take care of my two children, 6 and 7 yrs old. Every now and again I'll get a wild hair and do some seasonal work for some extra cash. Mostly I take care of the kids and house and do a lot of sewing.

    Hey ya,
Got hurt a couple months ago so I've had alot of time for self searching.
I've decided to take jewelry making classes which start in a week and open my own buisness. Just taking a leap of faith.

Did a quick 20 years in the Army so I have that little bit of retirement coming in which helps pay the bills. Now I'm working for the government. Its the most money I have ever made for doing the least amount of work I have ever done! "government work" hah! What an oxymoron LOL. I'm quiting in about 3 more years, take whatever I got and learn to live on it. I envy those of you who are doing that now. I have never been accused of being a fast learner...

    Budman,

That is wonderful...I wish good luck to you in all that you want to do....as you may know from my posts, self-suficiency is a major thing with me and I have personal knowledge about some aspects and tons of books and articles on the subject....from building your own compost shitter to building a ram pump, to making your own blue cheese to building a woodstove out of an old water heater, to going off grid.

If you need ANYTHING that I can help you with, please let me know...

Teepi, I admire you and the life you have worked so hard to achieve.

I'm a doula. It is a greek word that means to mother the mother. I help women during birth and in the first weeks following birth.
I also feed horses on the weekends for a friend who runs a training stable.

In the past I've wanted to be a mid-wife...one of my kids was born at home. Family was against/ worried about the homebirth, but met a wonderful midwife a couple yrs before so she was my support team.
I have worked in daycare centers, Jellystone Park, elementary schools as a substitute teacher, hospital, and nursing homes. Probably the longest job I had was being a mom to 7 kids....unfortunately that job doesn't pay the bills.

You are doing what I would like to do. Live in AZ and come up north for the summers. Would you mind sharing how you do this? Do you own, rent?? Do you have a job set up? Do you just wing it? I am incredibly curious.

Last summer, I realized I didn't want an office job--it just wouldn't work for me. Aparently, that's what my mom and stepdad wanted me to do, beacuse they were a little bit upset when I said I wanted to become and electrician...lol mom was like "You'll get dirty." LOL It's kind of her fault...I mean, she kept pushing me to work with my dad, who does floros and countertops. At first, I was like "No, that's not what I wanna do." LOL...but now I can't see myself doing any office job...I gott be in a shop, or out working on a jobsite or something. :D LOL...funny how she pushed me in this direction, then at first she was really uncomfortable with my choices! LOL...

I dunno...I just don't see myself suceeding in the office/corperate kinda world, so I'm like why bother...lol When I told everyone I was gonna do an aprenticeship, they were kinda freaked out...lol. :D But then I was just like...I could go to a 4 year college later, if I felt the need to. So finally everyone's kinda coming around and seeing my point of view...my dad kinda saw it all along. :p And I think if it wasn't for my stepdad, my ma would have came around a little bit quicker. My stepdad owns his own company...doing laser stuff. So I could end up working there for a stint...as a tech. But I don't know, some shits kinda happen in the last few weeks, months, etc...so I don't know if I'd like it there or not. :p Eh...but my dad's a contractor, so he don't have these wierd hangups about people who use their hands to accomplish stuff instead of sitting behind a desk all day...wow, I'm just rambling now...if yall read that all, I hope you enjoyed it. ;)

But yeah...to answer the question, I'm gonna focus on electrical, but jump around and pick up some other trades, too...probably focus on Heating/Cooling/Refrigeration, too! Anyway...someone take this keyboard away from me. :O
