Last night when i was trying to fall asleep, I kept worrying about small stuff and I found it really hard to relax, because of all the shit piling up like a nightmare.. Then I started wondering, what i usually think about when I try to fall asleep.

When I was younger, I always distracted myself from worrying by pretending I was a mermaid in the ocean.. But now that i'm aware that i'm trying to distract myself, it dosn't work.. Everytime i'm close to falling alseep, my mind goes "omg it worked!" and i'm awake again.

So, what have you been thinking about lately, or do you have some sort of thought you think of every night?

The past few months, I've been having issues falling asleep because I've had SOOOO much to do...

The other night, all I kept thinking about was my shitty landlord who owes me my security deposit and how I'm going to tell her right off.

Lately, I get angry about things as soon as I go to bed and it keeps me up for a while.

I have trouble sleeping...so much on my mind...sometimes I wake up early...3:00 or so...wide awake.

Sometimes I actually walk outside...or try to read...or one thing that sometimes works, is I think of a detailed scenario...something I would like to do.

For example, flying an airplane...stupid, but it works on occasion.

I feel the key is not to think, but to drift away onto a sweet slumber of fantasy and subconcious mystery
    - Just me then ? Hmm :)

    Hello,

try counting slowly in your head. Concentrate on counting, nothing else. If your thoughts wander away, go back to the last number you remember and that is divisible by 10 and restart counting from there.

    Regards

When I was real young I used to imagine myself running through the woods as a fox.

Now though I'll imagine myself in a situation where I'm a rock star or high end sports figure bantering with the crowd. Whatever works.

I can always tell when I'm not tired because I'll start thinking about "Hmmm I shoulda done this instead of that" to some situation that happened in the past.

i don't know. i don't intentionally think about anything in particular, just whatever comes to mind. usually i'm so tired by the time i get to bed, falling asleep is not an issue.

better than a lot of native english speakers on here.

I don't normally think much before bed. I'm usually baked off my gourd and having difficulty holding my head up anyway. I rage plenty enough before I go to bed to continue it once my head sinks into my pillow. Ohhhh memory foam.

I have an ongoing story I tell myself at bedtime. I go through an adventure in the story and wind up the story day by curling up tired and....zzzzzzz Often works and sometimes the story gets woven into dreams...thats really great.

I have issues with sleeping and I try to focus only on my breathing.

I tend to be a thinker when things are quiet and bedtime is not a good time to do it but it happens far too often.

If all else fails I turn on a fan so that I have white noise.

Same here. It's the thinking that can keep me awake. I usually read to fall asleep.

Me too. Focusing on my breathing tends to clear the thoughts.

for me, TO fall asleep, i have to stop trying to focus on any one thing, and just let my chilling mind find its own happy place. although i can visualize, just like the kind of world i see in my dreams anyway. if you ever look at my gallery on fur affinity, you'll see the kind of pictures in my head that let me go to sleep.

its a kind of alternative existence that's main difference from this one is just that things aren't as screwed up and aggressive. you know its usually less about people than what places could be like. these are the things that are relaxing to me. unusual architecture and infrastructure in closer harmony with nature, all that sort of thing.
