Iv been vegetarian for a while now,but its still really hard for me as far as what I put in place of meat,im having a hard time just eating veggies and fruits ,what do you put in place for meat during meals
You need protein that's why it's hard. When your body is deprived of a certain nutrient or vitamin, you will naturally begin to crave things that contain that/those nutrients and/or vitamins... In which case you need to start eating other foods that contain protein. Try tofu, seeds, beans, and nuts. Otherwise you can experiment with mock meats if you're interested... Some are pretty tasty, though I try to avoid the extremely processed ones such as Boca... Amy's foods usually has good replacement meats that aren't insanely processed. Any sort of nut you like, or seed [sunflower seeds, etc] will work too. And tofu can be used in basially ANYTHING. You can basically make it taste like anything you want it to depending on what you cook it in. Navy beans and kidney beans are also great sources of protein. I highly recommend finding a recipe for Lentil Soup. It's delicious and contains a good amount of protein. Please, do some more research before jumping into a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle; although it's great that you've done so, you can't malnourish your body due to lack of knowledge on the subject. Books, websites...wherever you possibly can scrounge up information, I recommend doing so. Get a vegetarian cook book as well, that would help a lot. If you still eat eggs, eggs also are chock full of protein, though I really hate to suggest eggs.....
im still ovo-lacto and well this summer my diet has been pretty sad....whenever my parents eat chicken, pork, or beef im stuck with veggie burgers, but dont get me wrong i love them its just that having them 4-5 times a week gets really annoying so i try to make stir-frys with TVP as often as possible cuz TVP is friggin amazing
i LOOOOOOVE veal!! PAIN AND SUFFERING TASTES DELICIOUS!!!! the secret to good meat is to make the animal REALLLYsuffer before killing it thats why when i go hunting i shoot the deer in the leg, then in the other 3. then i skin it BEFORE i kill it! that way the meat is so good satan himslef would enjoy it!
I remember seeing plates that have circles drawn on them with each labeled meat, potato,& vegetable. So if you're a vegan and have to leave the meat circle empty it may seem like you're missing something from dinner. I put whatever I desire in my plate.....spaghetti, Mac & Cheese, Stir Fry Rice, Lentils, Beans..(pinto,Kidney,Lima), soups, veggie salads & lots of fruit. As a kid, my brother & I could live on peanut butter sandwiches and I still eat them alot. Some days I don't eat as good as others...but I refuse to get obsessed about it anymore (even tho some family members think I am)
Theres nothing strange about vegetarian eating....and we are not cranks..we simply prefer, for moral, health or taste reasons not to eat food that contains animal products...and given the advantages of reducing animal fat intake and cholesterol levels a lower incidence of heart disease and fewer intestinal disorders are just two of the benefits of a balanced vegetarian diet.... Theres a huge choice of meat alternatives and most have been mentioned already.., grains, nuts, pulses and soya bean derivatives are the staple source for this.. its a great way of life and increased energy levels are another bonus..but you must first understand your nutrirional needs before embarking on a vegetarian diet.... try complimentary pairs..... beans and grains....lentil dishes with rice....nuts with vegetables....the choices are almost limitless....good luck!
Food. Ok that was flip, but geez, FOOD! Grains are the most logical starting point: cheap, interesting and soak up yummy sauces. In our house we eat a dish lovingly called bits o' stuff on rice. Brown rice, lots of whatever veggies are in the house sauteed or stir fried, a sauce of some sort, peanut is a fave, maybe thin-sliced crisp fried tofu or tempeh or seitan. Usually not as that's an extra step! It's a great way to use up the two carrots, quarter head of broccoli, the stray parsnip, stray half squash, the red pepper that is threatening to shrivel and the one artichoke heart in the 'fridge.
Never forget the humble mushroom....if it's variety of texture/taste yer lookin' for, the fungi family provides a good alternative to meat imo
it its just meaty texture in some things mushrooms are great. you can experiment with all sorts of different types of mushrooms. (i'm a portabella fan and they are great to grill with just a little bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic if you like.) there are also all sorts of meat alternative products or even tofu. its important to get your essential amino acids and to try to get a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains.
Why would i want to replace meat? you can get replica meat, ive never tried it but apparently its good stuff. Quorn is also good.
I don't put anything in place of meat. There are thousands of hearty, delicious, filling & fulfiling protein dishes without resorting to the slab of fake meat to go with the two veg idea. Typical meals I eat would be veg curry, dahl, and rice. Stir fry veggies with noodles and tofu. Stir fry brocolli, snow peas and cashews. Pumpkin curry with chickpeas on rice. All protein rich, tasty, satiating and none of them using anything in place of meat.
try some boca or morning star farms veggie meats, they are actualyl pretty good. when my family has burgers, i just heat one of my own veg burgers + a lil montreal saesoning and its im good to go! just try tofu type of meats.
Boca Burgers is owned by Kraft Foods, which is owned by Philip Morris. Morningstar Farms (Kellogg's) has been contaminated by Starlink GM corn. € Silk Soy Drink is owned by White Wave, which is owned by Dean Foods (5/9/02), whose main shareholders are Microsoft, GE, Philip Morris, Citigroup, Pfizer, ExxonMobil, Coca Cola, Wal-Mart, PepsiCo, Home Depot. not exactly what I would call healthy....but to each his own
Yves (yvesveggie.com) has amazingly yummy vegetarian foods- meatballs, fliet, hamburgers, turkey slices, ground "meat" for spaghetti sauce, sausages, hotdogs, bacon, chicken burgers, you name it! There's a HUGE number of options out there if you can get to a grocery or health food store
