I've read that they are starting to ban dodgeball, tag, and other "competitive" games in elementry schools. They are sheltering the kids from the games because it makes the kids who lose the game feel bad....what do you guys think about that?

I think that is rediculous. I think that competition is healthy and it makes kids strive to do better in life. Not only that but it prepares them for life - you can't always win everything in life and you need to know what it is like to be on the bottom, or else you will not know how to react to loss.

    PEACE

It makes sense, because, after all, we know that there are only winners in life. I mean, look at Kurt Cobain. He was one hell of a winner.

I agree things are getting ridiculous. I thought falling down scraping your knees, playing games, competition, outdoor excercise, and extracurricular activities are what is part of a healthy childhood. That is what kids are supposed to do. If you let them grow up sheltered against learning lessons about competition and taking risks then their future is going to be very handicapped. Nowadays I think things like this and being overly PC are getting carried away. Aren't there larger problems than tag that need to be addressed in schools? JeeZ!

The laws are enacted or at least enabled by anal-retentive soccer moms. Heavens forbid that a child could scrape a knee. BS!

More mom's need to think like you.
    'Get out of that puddle.'
'Stop running around, you'll mess up your hair. Don't get your clothes dirty.'

They are kids!! That's what they are suppose to do. Get messy, dirty, have fun. Why do so many parents these days try to take that away?
I am thankful for a mother who always said 'Kids are washable'.

I've yet to come accross an obituary which reads death by dodgeball. Scrapes happen, and thats part of being a kid.

it is ridiculous.....back in the day, more specifically when my parents were kids, they shoved kids out the door and didnt let them in until sundown. Its like "get out. go play. run out that energy. meake friends. get into adventure. but be back by the time the streetlights come on." i remember my mom shutting off the tube and forcing me and my bro outside.

pretty soon we are going to have a world full of fat sissies

kids need dirt, they need to playing in it and eating eat...its part of growing up healthy...competitive games like dodgeball are being replaced by competyitive games like halo for xbox...i think the whole culture of competition and fighting needs to end, we need to move beyond that animilistic behaviour...cus we dont need it anymore, however, let the kids play in the dirt for chrisake, let me run around and chase shit...but dont make them fight little mini wars between eachother

i do agree that those who don't want to play dodge ball should be able to opt out.
and i see no need for gym past elementary school. its pretty pointless altogether, but at least its a little fun break for elementary school kids.
