Had a discussion with a friend about collections - turns out she collects miniature tea sets, she found it extremely weird that I don't have a "collection." I sort of collect records, but only ones I like, because I actually listen to them, not just own them to "have" them, y'know? So it got me all curious - what do you all collect? And what should I start collecting?? Peace, ~ FlowerMama
I have a frog collection that my boyfriend calls kindof weird. I just love anything that's a frog. I have a frog clock, frog coffee mug, frog incense burner, and endless glass, rubber, different shaped, colored, stuffed animals...FROGS!!!!! lol.
acorns .. and more acorns.. I should take some pictures of my acorns.. I dont really put any effort to collect things. Ive a bunch of knickknacks. but there is really no order to them. a little I suppose.
SIM cards, matchbooks, and cards with magstripes on the back, used to have a bunch of old computer hardware, sticks of ram (DIMMS and SO-DIMMS), had a stack of old IDE harddrives, two identical WD 20GB harddrives (still fast as hell in RAID 0), a computer I built when I was 12 years old that ran better than some computers these days, but that was back when I lived at home, and my mom sold it for $5 bucks out front to some black guy...I wasn't there to stop it, but my girlfriend was there, and she said that dude was like "hell yea, I can make this into something good!"...yea, me too, I was gonna use it as a phishing server and honeypot ;-)
postcards, those squished pennies you can get at touristy locations with a picture that relates to the place (my mom always got those when we were younger, I just feel the need to continue that), buttons, glass jars (different shapes and colors)
I collect things for my son from everywhere we go (yea, he's spoiled in that I'm always buying him stuff... )-- okay, that is true. I AM always buying him things because I'd rather spend my money on him than myself, but that's not what I mean... I mean, postcards, ticket stubs, brochures, maps from places, etc for him to have in his various baby/toddler books, scrapbooks, etc. oh and I also collect stickers (and scrapbooking stuff)...for his scrapbooks but also because I have pen pals who I swap things with... decos and such... and I also collect stationary, but only kawaii or Japanese stationary and lettersets and such..but yea now im showing my dorky side.
Salt and pepper shakers, bone china animal figures, thimbles, Sue Coleman prints, swarovski crystal animals, miniature houses and scapes, pressed floral art, candles and hummingbirds. The only collection I started was hummingbirds and the rest someone else started for me through time. Go figure. At least I do not mind dusting.
I used to have a few philly suwbay tokens, but I think they accidentally got spent as quarters..ooops! Where the fuck am I gonna get those again, except in Philly? What other city still uses tokens for real? It's all magnetic stripe cards now for real.
I have a similar collection but it's not intentional. In fact the last time got rid of some stuff it filled the whole back of my pickup truck.
I used to collect bar/casino matchbooks and chips. But now mainly tools, Have thousands, Millions to go. I really collect a lot of things, But one thing I seem to get all the time every year at xmas, Is something 'A Christmas story'/ralphie related. I am looking forward to the pink bunny pajamas, I have a major award already.
