I am currently looking into differant types of birth control. I have used the pill (ortho-tri-cyclen) for almost 10 years during that time I switched to the shot and back to the pill again. I was trying to find out what other women are using and find out a little more about their experiances, good or bad, with their method of birth control. I would like to try something without hormones and that is what I am looking for, but I figured if anyone could just put their expierances here it might help someone else with the same question about other types of birth control.
Egyptian ancient writings dating back to 1850 BC refer to techniques using a device placed in a woman’s vagina made of crocodile dung and fermented dough, which most likely created a hostile environment for sperm. Other items placed in the vagina included plugs of gum, honey, and acacia.
I hope you are not trying to say that you currently use these methods. I sure as heck am not going to be trying any of them!
I think using crocodile dung as a form of birth control would work 100%... to keep the men away! But really, I have heard of this before, I just didn't know how effective it was said to be... but really, can you blame a woman for not wanting to use that kind of contraception?
After having their eleventh child, a North Georgia mountaineer couple decided that 11 was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his doctor and told him that he and his wife didn't want to have any more children. The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem, but it was expensive. "A less costly alternative," said the doctor, "is to go home, get a cherry bomb (fireworks are legal in the North Georgia Mountains), light it, put it in an empty beer can, then hold the can up to your ear and count to 10." The redneck said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I don't see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me." "Trust me," said the doctor. So the hillbilly went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5..." At this point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs, and resumed counting on his other hand. This procedure also works in Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Louisiana, and most parts of Mississippi.
I think a great partnership is the best contraceptive. I do not mean to sound.. oldfashioned and rusty, but find a man you can trust, since they don't need to get a woman pregnant if they care enough.
Does anyone use the sponge? I've been doing a little research on it, but I'd like to find out some expierances from people who have actually used it.
I've never used a sponge, but I've been thinking seriously about getting fitted for a diaphragm or cervical cap. Right now we use condoms. I've tried several different pills, but hormonal birth control really creeps me out and makes my body do weird things. One nice thing about just using condoms, though - it is pretty much the only form of BC (that I can think of at least) that involves BOTH parties. While I do (kind of, I think) agree with baloon about a good partnership - every form of birth control under the sun has failed at some point, so you don't want to be having sex with someone who wouldn't do the right thing if it failed - using a method like condoms can at least cut out the "blame" part of it. (wait, I just woke up, am I making any sense?) What I'm trying to say, is with myself an my bf, I know if something got screwed up and I ended up pregnant, he would do the right thing. He is a loving supportive partner in my life. But by using condoms, if that situation were to arise, it wouldn't at any point become a resentful situation - both of us would know that we had done everything we could, and it happened anyway. If I were just on the pill and got pregnant, I wouldn't want any part of him ever thinking I had messed up on purpose.
IUD. Very effective. Doesn't need to be replaced for 5 years. Down side is the cost. Requirements to be fitted for one are for you to have given birth to at least one child, in a commited relationship (because certain stds can cause some kind of infection and make you very sick, I've even heard possibly die.). I like it, there is no matience required to it. I don't have to worry about it except for occasionally checking its position.
So you can't get this unless you've had a child? That sucks, I was kind of thinking about this one... As for the checking position comment, I was reading up on it and it said that you can feel the strings I guess when you'd be checking the position... is this true, is it that obvious or is it just that you know what to feel for?
I use the pill so that it will regulate my irregular periods. Otherwise I don't have periods every month and that's kinda scary when you're in a relationship and in college. Peace and love
Sexual Alchemy... Because it's sacred, beautiful, natural, empowering and generates so much love between partners!
currently: abstinence most common:vasectomy and prayer/good thoughts (combined, not separate) favorite non-permanent product: depo-provera
The reason why they usually only give it to women who have had a child is because there is a chance you won't be able to have children after using it. Some women just become sterlie. Its a small chance but still, if your young and have no kids would you take that chance? The strings are the checking the position thing... once you feel them you give a small tug (nothing hard to rip it or hurt yourself) just to make sure it hasn't detached. Otherwise, unless I'm looking for it I never feel it. I think it is by far the best form of BC I've ever tried.
Initially just condoms, then a combination of condoms and the Pill, now just on the Pill. Tried a couple of different Pills - don't really like the side effects that I get, but I will admit that it is a lot more peace of mind and it has done a lot to regulate my cycle as I have PCOS so I was all over the place prior to starting on the Pill. Have tried Minerva, Minesse (hated that one), Loette (least side effects but I do gain weight on it) and now on Yasmin (most side effects but I'm actually loosing weight now - go figure!) I did consider the Diaphragm, by my OBGYN advised against it, said that it isn't really that suitable for someone young. So, the pill it is until we are ready to have kids.
