that's my new years resolution. to read more books than internet articles currently i am reading life of pi and i am having to force myself to make it last, it is a beautiful book and very much my style. i'm also reading cat's cradle though it has taken a back burner since i started pi. are you reading anything?
Just finished up Brothers Karamazov and now I'm on Crime and Punishment. And I'm sorta snailing through the new Darwin Awards.
He shot himself in Nova Scotia. I read 51 books this morning, including Nietzche - Beyond Good and Evil, the Qu'ran, the Bible and Stephen Hawking's entire catalogue.
i read that after i read brave new world. i need to reread it now that i have actually used psychedelics. btw i have that exact edition. and lode, crime and punishment is a damn good book, had to read it my senior year of HS
I was going to get into a little diddy called the ascent of money, but i'm going to have to put that back on the shelf for a while. signed up for a course on plato's republic earlier today and I haven't looked at that in a few years so I'll have to get going on it sooner rather than later. also about a quarter way through the world as will and representation which is really plucking a few strings in me old brain. pi's yer thing eh? i couldn't finish it. not my bag of monkeys.
isn't that funny? i adore it. but i know what you mean. as good as a people made steppenwolf out to be, i couldn't get into it, though i loved siddhartha.
In all seriousness I have had a manic and weird couple of months. In the past month I have attmpted White Fang by Jack London, A loner's manifesto By Aneli Rufus, A brief history of time by Steven Hawking, Mindfulness in Plain English...all of which I put down after a few chapters because they were either crap, not my thing, or I was too tired to understand them. I started reading "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" in the car today and I actually enjoyed what I read, more so than anything I have read in a long time. Really intense poetry.
its good that you know what i mean. cause i have no idea what you just meant. but i'm an idiot, so that explains that.
how in the hell are you ready for zarathustra? don't you feel like you're missing ... kind of like ..everything the guy is meaning to say? I got the feeling i was but that was because i didn't do any decent prep reading. its back on the shelf and i probably won't get to it for another few years. or until i give up completely.
Macbook for Dummies...bought a Macbook Pro and realized I haven't used a Mac in ten years. The Ultimate Survival Guide...knots, improvised shelter, general camp craft and emergency first aid, all in one book that fits in my pocket!
I just finished reading the Mumonkan. No book has ever given me as much joy (with the possible exception of Brecht's short stories). I think you would benefit, Zilla- given your philosophical mind.
