Lager in cans. Yup, Im officialy broke! And Nesta, thank you for the Gordons reccomendation, I drank an entire bottle on Tuesday nite and had one of the best dreams :) I woke up at 4:30am jacked, then went back to sleep, and the dream must have happened at about 6:30am. Put it this way, feline faces on worm bodies were biting me and nudging me from inside a pond on the roof of my house in south Philly that doesnt exist ;)

You mix all that shit in one night? I couldn't imagine drinking Don De Dieu on top of liquor, but that's just me.

I think Yuengling is pretty decent stuff, especially in warmer weather when you don't want anything too heavy. The price makes it even better. It's way better than Corona and Heineken.

LOL... I just read this stuff.... Yeah, around here if you go to a bar and say you want a yuengling from the tap, they will say "you mean lager?" Which is weird cause lager is the only type of yuengling ever on tap.. It's kinda funny I suppose. :)

I've toured the brewery in Pottsville last year because I have family within miles of there...

    Oh- Heineken sucks!

I'm not from Philly but I live within an hour of Philly.

I'm not a huge bar fan either... espiecially the type bar scene. Now and then I like a nice little pub with good beer and music or to eat a meal at a bar but the bar scene... I find annoying and depressing.

Oh. Yeah, I just don't really like people in there. Last time I went to a bar, this gay bar guy kept hitting on me, so I left LOL

nah, its cool. i only had about two shots total, i think. did a shot of the rum, then sipped on a shot of the scotch with an ice cube in it while smoking my cigar. then when i was out of that i cleansed my palate with some water and drank the two beers. i paced myself pretty well, i drank all that over the course of about 4 hours iirc.

tonight i'm just sticking with one type of beer and nothing else, cause i have to be at work by 5:30AM. not get up at 5:30, have to be there....its going to suck. but its alright....

i went to the grocery intending to pick up a sixpack, with two stipulations...

    a) it must, above all else, be affordable
    b) it should hopefully be something i've never had before, or something i've only had maybe once and don't remember well

i ended up getting gordon biersch hefeweizen, which i'd never had before. i'd never had anything by this brewery, though i'd heard some decent things about it. the price was right, too, at 5.99 for a sixpack.

decanted two bottles into a weizen glass (two didnt fit because its the traditional sized 500ml glass...one bottles not enough for it, two is too much...so i refilled after drinking some). my only experiences with american hefes have been disappointing in general, so i was judging it from the get go and had a bias against it at the start, but wanted to give it a shot. i was surprised that it had a fairly decent coloration, and looked pretty nice in the glass, if a bit more bubbly and transparent than i'd expect from a hefe. the bead on the head was a bit too large, and there was little retention, though the lacing is nice enough so far. its got a slightly thin mouthfeel, and the flavor is slightly thin but it DOES have the characteristic hefeweizen underflavors of banana and bubblegum, with just a hint of clove thrown in the mix. all in all its not as good as my hefeweizen standbys of paulaner, weihenstephaner, hacker pschorr, or ayinger, but then its far less expensive than these better beers and infinitely superior to other american hefes that i've tried. it may not be a great example of a hefeweizen, but it is a good beer with a good pricetag, and something i'm likely to buy again when i dont want to spend 8-12 dollars for six beers.

this is a lot better than shiner hefeweizen by a longshot. and to think, for only slightly more than a sixpack of budweiser or miller, the majority of america could instead enjoy a genuinely tasty beer far superior to what they're used to, even if its not mindblowing......

oh well, more for me :)
i'd give it 3 stars out of five
