I have a very odd, unique sense of style, especially when it comes to "formal wear"...because of this, it's really difficult to find my ideal wedding dress at any shop.

I never wanted white. White is out.
And the style I picture in my head is no where to be found.

So my mom, who is EXCELLENT at sewing said she would make my dress for me, and pay for it all, which is awesome.

My fiancee and I are getting married in Las Vegas next year, so naturally I want something kind of bold like Vegas is.

So, I was wondering do any of you know where to find some unique kind of awkward patterns?

Otherwise, do any of you design your own patterns in which I could ask to have a custom pattern made? I would totally pay for it.

We want a cheap, non-traditional wedding, but I do want to spend some money on the dress, just because, it would be fun :)

PM me if you DO make patterns and think you may be able to customize one. I can give measurments, and the styles I would like to see.

    Thanks!

it's weird, i do what i can to be original and unique when it comes to my clothes, but for my wedding dress i totally want to sport a classic gown. I never ever wanted to get married until now since I've found the real thing and am in true love for the first time.....and now i'm dreaming about it like a little girl. Just a random comment...i'm no help at all :&

    LOL that's okay.

Yeah I don't know, see, we're getting married at a fairly young age, so I want things to be fun and lighthearted for us.

The reception might be a little more traditional, however, because I can't seem to come up with any kind of creative ideas. But I want the ceremony to be cheap and wild. We both don't have any sort of religion, so we never wanted a church wedding. That's out of the question.

I want to sport a short dress with a long train, and a fishnet style veil, like the 1940's style just over the eyes type vails. Dig what I mean?

I'm probably going to want some bright red color.

    It's Las Vegas style!

that sounds pretty sweet. I have lately become obsessed with weddings, having gone to a couple recently and just getting into wedding shows on life network i have major wedding fever. My boyfriend and i talk about it sometimes and the things we'd like and wont want. It sounds retarted, but im going to start a book soon, just so i dont forget. We don't want any kind of church wedding either. We're going to rent an inflatable jumping castle for ours, and have frisbees and things for people to play with while we're gone for pictures. And our stag and doe is going to be pirate themed. I have a million and one other ideas for what i want to do that will be super far out and original. Whether i get married sooner or later, it's still going to be a rad wedding. I refuse to throw a boring party. The dress and decor will probably be the only classic parts.

    So why Las Vegas?

holy heck, I absolutely LOVE the inflatable castle idea. Can I come??? haha

Him and I have always wanted to do the cheesy Las Vegas wedding, just because we're nerds like that. There is so much around the area for our guests to occupy themselves with if they stay for a few days [which most of them probably will]

Not to mention, he has his heart set on getting the Elvis guy to marry us. HAHA. I really don't have any disagreements with that, because I love stupid stuff like that.

We also have always planned to do it around his 21st birthday, and he decided he really wanted to go to Vegas for his 21st... so out of the blue one day he suggested it would be cool if we just got married while we were out there.

I also want a smaller, more personal, fun wedding... nothing big, no relatives that I never see, none of that... so making it out of state, and somewhere that can be pricey is a good way to keep the number of guests limited to the people we are closest to.

My mom is almost more psyched than I am because of the Las Vegas aspect lol.

We WERE thinking of doing it somewhere more tropical for a while, but the price tag on that wedding would be far too expensive for us, and I honestly am not willing to spend all that much on the wedding because the actual fact of being married is good enough for me.

Also, this way, we can stay in Vegas for a bit, have fun, relax, and wait to save up for a more elaborate honey moon. Vegas isn't CHEAP, but it is cheaper than most of the other places we would go, it's closer, and it has MORE stuff to do. While in Vegas, I would like to take a look around outside of Vegas as well, because I've always wanted to visit Nevada and experience the desert like environment. I'm pretty much obsessed with the desert.

Everything about Vegas appeals to me, especially the lights. Oooo the lights.

I was thinking maybe instead of an actual reception, we could all have whoever is going to come, go to one of the amazing restaurants with us for dinner, and afterwards go to one of the shows, and later spend the night in a hotel-casino.

that sounds really great. I like your reasoning for it :)

Yeah i totally shit when i came up with the inflatable castle idea. We were at this picnic just talking about weddings, and by we i mean i (haha) and i turned and saw one of those castles and i was like 'man i wish i could still go in one of those' and then BAM it hit me...have one at the wedding!!!!!!!!! No carnies to control the height limit. haha :)

It sounds like you've got it nice and figured out which is pretty sweet. I'm making sure my wedding is super thrifty so we too can go on a sweet honeymoon and do it a lot. I'm the opposite though, i'm inviting anyone i've ever known. Okay maybe not, but it's a nice excuse to have everyone who means something to me all in the same room telling me how awesome i look. lol. ;)

    Damn carnies.

Yeah, I guess I'm being kind of a bitch by saying those who want to come have to get their own plane ticket and what not, but that's part of my plan on cutting down on cost.

And I want the people that mean something to me there too, however, I am trying to avoid the chaos of inviting this and this relative, and then one relative being offended that I didn't invite them.

There are particular people that I don't care to be at my wedding simply because I have never really even known them, or like them all that much... but, I also don't feel like hurting anyone's feelings by not sending them an invite.

With that said, making it something like this, where the people have to go out of state, and get the money for a plane ticket will cut the chance of someone I never really was close to going to those lengths to come. Hopefully all the people I would want there anyway will come, but I won't be sad if they don't either. I'm just excited to make that committment to guy anyway.

But yeah. I want to come to yours and jump in the castle like whoa.

i wanna come to your wedding! you should seriously think about trying to get on that wild weddings show on life! if you explained that to them, i'm sure they'd want you! lol
as for the OP....could you draw out the dress that you would want? If your mom is an awsome sewer, I'm sure she could kinda 'disect' your drawing and make it from that.

At our wedding, I want bride and groom rubber duckies on our cake. Which is going to be German chocolate, lol. I also want a purple gauzey sundress and a wreath of purple flowers in my hair, and of course we're going to be barefoot and outside. We're getting married at Dan's old boyscout camp...hehehe, how nerdy! Hooray for out-of-the-ordinary wedding ideas!

Apples + Oranges, Halloween is coming soon. There are usually a ton of neat new patterns that come out around that time. That's where I got the pattern for my prom dress my senior year. Fabric stores have mountains of them for pretty cheap usually.

I wanted a really natural, barefooty wedding but my fiancee is a bit different from me that way, so we had to compromise lol.

I did a sketch of a wedding dress when I was around 14. It was really elaborate, not something I'd like to wear but, well I do lots of sketches, because when I look for things I like to wear or buy, I also can't find it anywhere. I don't make patterns though. I've created my own patterns, but I don't record them, I basically lose them and come up with them by mistake anyway. So no luck there. But good luck getting what you want.

I wanted a sweet barefoot hippie wedding until i realized i don't like retro wedding gowns, and i want a sweet princess dress. I want my wedding to be full of madness and being all peaceful and relaxed would put not only my guests but myself to sleep. I wanted acoustic guitar and a harp for my vintage wedding scenario, but it just wouldn't excite me enough. I want a sweet band doing a cover of Good Golly Miss Molly as i'm walking down the aisle after the wedding is through. lol....
not only will it be super amazing....no one will cry and be mushy. i refuse to cry at my wedding. my nose gets too red.

One of the only retro things im sticking too is we want to have our pictures and video done with an old vintage camera from the 60's, (can't think of the right word) to obtain that sweet retro look. man i want to get married TOMORROW.

i got carried away with that last post...originally all i had wanted to say was that even though i'm not planning a barefoot wedding i would end up barefeet anyways, because hell knows i wont be able to keep any fancy shoes on for very long. part of me thinks im just going to wear flip flops anyways. with the size of my dress my shoes wont be visible even once.

LOL Yeah I'll end up barefoot too, definitely, immediately after the ceremony. I can't keep shoes on for more than a couple minutes.

And yeah, I agree... I don't want the mushiness... though I'll probably cry anyway because that's how I am.

The last wedding I went to started off with like, the whole Norah Jones album in very dim lighting... I was ready for a nap. So, I want something on the complete opposite spectrum of that.

    Fuckin' Norah Jones.

Well, I like Fiona Apple, but I certainly wouldn't spin that at my wedding... talk about yawn fest.
