''We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control.''

What do you think of Another Brick In the Wall lyrics? I'm not talking musically, just the meaning of it.

I think anyone can relate to it, probably the reason why it did reach number one in 1980

Yeah well, education can be needed, but only voluntarily perhaps. I think it's only for the best all people learn to read and stuff. We don't need thought control, but we do need some some control (like in supervision) on the education.

in following the belief that we don't need though control, one would infact be under thought control...

    generally, we need education...
but not the kind of education that is described at "another brick on the wall" and "the happiest days of our lives"... no, we don't need that education!

The scene in the movie of the wall actually explains it rather well, it's not about anti-education or anti-schools, it's more about abusive teachers, physically but also more so emotionally.(i.e. in the movie where the teacher ridicules the child's poem.) That moment never happens to Roger but he has described his time in school as for the most part "bloody fucking awful"

"We don't need no education", if you notice, this is a double negative, which really means "we need education".

The proper term is "We don't need any."

I was just pointing out that's what it means in proper English not what Pink Floyd meant it to mean.

'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)' was made to be a hit single (they hardly ever did that - 'Money' was another one') so it was probably just to grab people's attention. It was about Roger Waters' experiences with teachers, and the way he felt when he was at school. If you see the film, the guitar solo features a load of kids smashing up a school - every kids' dream.

    Mine,too!!

you're also forgetting about another brick in the wall part 1 & 3, which are about losing your father to the war
and finally breaking free of what's controlling you

part 2 is good, but personally i prefer 1&3
