I'm just bringing up this thread because i've seen so many people who claim that Jim Morrison was a terrible poet, or a hoax that ruined the doors.

In my opinion, Poetry doesn't always has to be subtle or complex, I think that poetry is the attempt to express the often undescribable emotions into words that not explain the emotion but recreates it, reflexs it.
His poetry and songs are awesome, there is so much power in the expressing of his bare emotions, he didn't pretend to be someone else, he just was who he was, and tried to put his soul in his songs and poems.

I don't know any of his poetry. Can you give some examples of passages (not entire songs) and why you think they are effective?

"Forgive the poor old people who gave us entry
taught us god in the childs prayer in the night"

I think he was a great poet.

    My meat is real.
    My hands--how they move
    balanced like lithe demons
    My hair--so twined and writhing
The skin of my face--pinch the cheeks
    My flaming sword tongue
    spraying verbal fire-flys
    I'm real.
    I'm human

I think if people said that they just dont conceptualize enough

I think the man is a genius

Yea he was pretty darn cewl, he was to smart, and i think, that it was part of his popularity and fake love from woman that drove him to madness.

This is from "the ghost song" , one of my favourite songs from the doors ^^.

"A vast radiant beach and cooled jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by it's quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us."

he was and is a moron. utterly stupid.
i've read a few of his stuff and i GOT NOTHING from any of it. not that i even had any bit of desire to try to figure out what he was conveying. it's just too boring.
reading Jim Morrison poetry is like being in solitary confinement for ten years.

Ditto... he was also a terrible singer, off-key as hell most of the time.
His contrived roguish petulance was his only apparently skill, IMHO

Morrisson's writing, both song and poetry, is contrived wannabe-intellectual garbage.

Everything he has every written could be replace with the mantra "look how indellijent I am"

i like him as a vocalist, but his poetry always seemed a vacuous reflection of his ego to me

    ^ Yes.

If your a star in the rock n roll world, your ego will grow a bit. Even the humble Bob Dylan had his moments.

If your ego is big you will get poetry like that. Nothing wrong with an ego anyways, as long as your not violent with it. All he was doing was writing what he felt. Any man who can honestly express his world through the eyes of his ego earns them respect if your asking me.

I like his poetry. I don't LOVE it. But its good.
