I think The Deer Hunter is one of the best. But I like all war movies.

I can't see a movie set in either Gulf War I or II based on Heart of Darkness. But have you seen Three Kings?

I like the old WWII movies, like Midway, The Longest Day (John Wayne, hell yeah!), and A Bridge Too Far. Git them Nazis!

I think 'Full Metal Jacket' is an amazing war movie. There's no messing about there, it's strait in with there with the military school and all the shit that goes with it. Plus has some hillarious lines! "5'8" I didn't know they stacked shit that high" - It kinda gets across two points at once, that military school is hard work but a great bonding and humourous time in marine lives.

Then there's the awful suicide scene.

And then it's like a whole new movie when they actually get to war. It feels kinda lighthearted in comparison with the training. Lots of sitting around getting pissed. But it's not long before Kubrick throws you back into fucked up terratory. Still it's differant from the school, more nerve wracking altogether, shown when a group of men have to pass one lone sniper.

Ah, it's just brilliant! Start to finish genius.

I think 'the pianist' is a very good movie about the 2nd world war in Russia. It's the best war movie i've seen so far i think.
