For those of you who know Amsterdam well, is Vondelpark in the centre, like near the shops and things? I am staying in the vondelpark youth hostel (on a budget). Was also wondering if anyone has stayed there and what its like? Thanks.
It's pretty much in the center, although it has a long shape and it kinda depends on where exactly you are staying. The youth hostel close to it that I know is the Flying Pig and that's a perfect location.. very close to Leidseplein and Museumplein.. the park itself is very nice as well, especially if the weather is good then there are a lot of folks hanging out in the park.. You'll have a blast, don't worry
Velvet so right ...youll have a blast. Go on Nemesis' Amsterdam map and plan your attack. Other maps all over the internet and in three hours of study youll know where and how far everything is. Laugh a lot.
I've walked the distance on numerous occasions, but that will take you a while, especially when it's crowded everywhere with tourists You can take any bus/tram that goes to Leidseplein, from there it's a 5 minute walk (if you're on that side of the park at least, if you have to go to the other side of the park it'll take you longer ofcourse). Use www.routenet.nl or www.map24.nl for general directions.. think they have an english version as well. Kinda busy now so no time to check it out for you.. but basically.. the main entrance of the Vondelpark is very very close to Leidseplein.. so if you get there you're totally ok.
