Bush at one of his last rally's let it slip that he would rather not have a volunteer army, and he hinted to a draft, but later realized he made a mistake and flip flopped. Is there really going to be a draft?
There will never ever, ever be a draft. Unless everyone in the military, heaven forbid, dies. And in which case we will be finished anyway.
Read a book. Do some more research, then get back to me. There will never be another draft. And before you vote for Kerry read Unfit for Command.
Two things 1. The draft is unconstitutional, they just trick you into volunteering. 2. Not only is bush unfit for cammand, he is unfit to use the restroom on his own.
Bush is unfit for command. He just sat at that gradeschool for a whole hour and did nothing while NY and the Pentagon burned. He froze, and not surprisingly since he has no experience.
I don't think a draft would be possible... I sure as hell would resist, and it's a safe bet most others would too.
If Bush keeps saying 'I'm not going to have an all-volunteer army' at his campaign stops, he's going to scare all the young people into voting for Kerry. We don't know if he's just screwing up his English again or if it's a Freudian slip.
hmm, that book was written by two people and one of them a swift boat vet who was proven to be a liar.
Anyone care to elaborate on what can be done to increase the strength of the army to deal with the situation in Iraq and other ventures that the government may have in the future (invasion of Iran, etc) without a draft? I don't mean to imply we must have a draft, but what are some good plans to increase army strength? If there aren't any, what do we do about Iraq or other situations that may arise that catch us off-guard with too small an army?
Here's how I see it,The all volunter army is running a bit low right now.The reserves/national guard is already overused and running thin.If shrub gets back in,he'll have little choice in about a year in reinstating the draft.Take it for what its worth folks. Our troops are spread way to thin now.
A country whose citizens are unwilling to volunteer for the military in time of need has a big problem. Filling the military with the unwilling will not solve that problem. The problem is a citizentry that wants the benifits without personaly paying the cost. In regards to the current situation, above I said "in time of need". A volunteer military must be used judisiously and treated properly. I suspect that enlistment rates would increase if the troops got the equipment they needed and if vets were treated decently. One young man joined the army, received an enrolment payment, went to Iraq, was injured and received a disability discharge. The Army, in its beuracratice majesty, initated legal proceeding to get the enlisment bonus back on the basis that he hadn't been in the Army long enough. If our government treated the members of the military with respect, recruiting and retention would be much easier.
There is not going to be a draft under Bush. It would be political suicide if 1 was ever put back into action, the house voted on a bill to bring back the draft, it got 2 yes votes, and those only 2 votes were by Democrats who opposed the Iraq war. The pentagon doesn't want a draft, volunteers fight much better then those that were drafted. A draft would me much more likely under Kerry, he wants to increase the number of full time soldiers but Kerry hasn't said anything on increasing funding for the military, while Bush wants to further increase military funding especialy for the missle defense system, so how would Kerry pay for these troops, and well almost everything else he has promised too.
