    hey everyone

i'm watching the news and they just had a piece on a whole group of bald eagles that were found killed today in a park in vancouver. 11 or 12 of them i believe... anyways, they said they don't know why it happened or who did it yet, but that all of them had their legs cut off; every other part of them was still there.

    horrible, i know.

but any idea why the legs?

Ugh...I don't know why someone would do that, but that's horrible.:( Did they say how they died? Shot down or something? How does one go about killing a group of bald eagles that could easily just fly off? Weird.

no clue how they died. sorry. Didn't see any holes in them, but that might have been just the angles chosen.

well, I don't think the eagles were originally in a group. They were brought there in garbage bags and then ditched... some of them were in partial graves, but not all of them.

Wow, 11 or 12 bald eagles? That is so odd. I don't know about Canada, but in the US bald eagles are protected as an endangered species and to kill one is a crime. However, to see a bald eagle (let alone 11 or 12) in the wild is rare, as they are reclusive birds. I wonder how the murderer found so many eagles at once???

    A tragic mystery....

ya, it was definatly a crime.

I don't think it would be too difficult to find them, if you went looking. There's a few (well, now a few less :( ) of them here.

does anyone have a clue about the legs? Are they common trophies? medicinal? what? what?!?!

    sigh. looking for meaning.

Well, I searched Google for eagle leg & eagle legs. I found one auction where a set of eagle legs was sold that the seller claimed were used for 'alchemy magic', however when I tried searching for eagle leg + magic I totally failed to find any of these supposed spells... there are a lot of sites with spells, ancient magic, etc, so if they really were used in many spells there should've been something on the 'net. Probably just a trick to make the things sound more appealing to the bidders.
I would've thought the feathers were the part people would've wanted.

In the US they are certainly protected and it is against the law to even posses feathers let alone kill one.
    It is rare, but...

I spent years on Unalaska Island in the Aleutian chain and we would see hundreds (no exaggeration what-so-ever) daily, except during nesting time when they would all dissappear.

They would eat out of the dumpsters and flock like seagulls around smelly crab pots.

i see bald eagles around here all the time, well not in town so much, but i'm on the outskirts, so yeah, it's not uncommon to see them. and i used to have a couple of feathers that i had found on hikes and whatnot.

still... too bad that someone slaughtered a bunch of them.
