Here's a question for you that I have not been able to satisfactorily answer. WHY does the united States support Israel against the Palestinians? Is it not true that the Palestinians were in possession of that land for many years before we came along and helped out the Israelies? Can someone answer this one for me please? Thanks

I have been trying to get a good answer on this for a few yrs now. I asked a friend of mine, (no dummy by far) an ex master Sgt in the air force who has two masters degrees, and you know what he said? He said it is because the Israelies are God's chosen people, simple as that. I couldn't accept that answer though, it just doesn't fit. That's why I went to the History forum, I have heard enough conspiracies lol. I want facts, and I am surprised on an internet community like this that I can't get a real answer. I just don't understand why we would support them, when we really should have absolutely no reason to be messing around in that business. C'mon history majors! Educate me!
We helped create the monster now called Israel. We felt bad about the Holocaust so we supported them when they stole the land from the Palestinians. Now Israel is like the US's little stepchild.
I think people should remember when they say Israel stole the land that when the land was spit up in 1948, it look like this: Israel was much smaller, then everyone kid of decided to declare war.
Yeah a few things should be kept in mind. First, jews have always lived there. Second. Secondly, although the US agreed that the state of Israel should be established, they didn't do much to support it until the 1960s. And as someone else has said, it was a very small country to begin with, before it was invaded three times.
The original idea to create an 'Israel' was proposed by the Brits after the First World War. They're the ones who originally started all the problems in the Middle East, anyway. The British and the French divided up that whole part of the world in whatever way they saw fit. All the countries that we hear about today, Iraq, Syria, Israel, etc... never existed before European colonialism. The same goes for India.
Widespreadpanic and noland have it right...... The British also messed with the whole of the Ottoman Empire a few decades earlier... We indeed are to blame for just about everything happening in the Middle East.. Trying to fix our own mistakes just makes it worse..

Israel was occupied, after the Greeks (Alexander), by the Romans, then the Byzantines (Greek-speaking Roman Empire), then Arabs, then Ottomans, then British... It has been the homeland of the Hebrews/Jews for millenia. The majority of "Palestinian" ancestry (documented by DNA) is Bedouin. They are not from there. They were brought in by the invading imperialist Arab conquerors to settle the land which had been repeatedly ethnically cleansed of Jews and others. If you observe the behavior of modern nation-states, Israel is no worse than the majority of them, and better than most as far as human rights are concerned. I invite you to spend 6 months as a WOMAN in Saudi Arabia and then try your next 6 months in Israel. You'll think you died and went to heaven. Israel's destruction is proclaimed by nearly every Arab and Muslim state. They have tried to accomplish this repeatedly. When Israel responds, they're "imperialists". Israel is about the size of New Jersey, isn't it? Wow, what a mighty and terrible "Empire"! Their obsession with "land-grabbing" is evidenced by their TWICE withdrawing from Lebanon, returning the Sinai, attempting to withdraw from Gaza (still in progress), and setting the stage for the return of most of the West Bank. Many of you need to get a firm grip on reality.

sounds to me as if palaepeasant has done some research, and laid out some facts for us to verify. All I have seen up to this point besides that is generalisations and what people think happened. I am frankly quite surprised that I cannot get an answer to this that really answers the question. I figured that at some point, we had made a deal with them to support them militarily for some reason or other, oil or something. I just want to know why we are there in the first place. Funny all the people I have discussed this with over the years, nobody has given me a real answer. Peace...
you'll find that this subject has been discussed many times having spent some time in palestine amongst people who have been brainwashed gives me a unique insight to what they believe and how they see the future. having not spent time amongst the brainwashed of the american right wing i can't claim first hand experience but from what i've read so far i understand they are just as conditioned as those people of the west bank. israel only exists because some people said "god" said so. as god told them that israel was theirs this meant they could kill anyone who lives in israel who wasn't jewish, as witnessed by their actions alone. thats ok apparently. fast forward a couple of thousand years and things haven't changed, the "chosen people" ie the religious fanatics are back in town doing what they do best apparently and what god told them to do. when someone singles (jews) them out for some punishment for breaching their own peverse world view (the nazis killing the jews), this is not ok. what makes the life of a palestinian and what they own any less than the "chosen people"?? oh by the way.. a good way to disinherit a people from their land politically, culturally and socially is to say they didn't exist before the invasion. when the british went to australia they declared australia "terra nullis" a land owned by no one, or at least "no one" was there. you'll find many specious claims about the palestinians not being in israel or not having ownership - guess why. what you see going on in israel in the Aktions against the palestinians is part of the "final solution". the israelis have the same problem with the palestinians as the germans had with the jews. they see it more cost effective to just keep the palestinians within the confines of the walled ghettoes where they can make them disappear at leisure. the future of israel will be the concentration camps of nazi germany, the palestinians are seen as vermin that need to be exterminated.

well thats probably the most detailed and descriptive protest against my posts, its nice to know someones reading them! i'd also say this was the funniest but i'd have to say it wasn't unexpected. my own view is that i object to people telling me that killing people is ok and going through a lengthy dance routine of "intellectual gymnastics" to try and prove that concentration camps are ok. i object to the killing of the previous owners of palestine in the same way i object to the germans setting up concentration camps to kill jews and people going through lengthy discourse to "prove" that the final solution didn't happen. as for jew hater - nice try amigo. i don't label anyone until they reveal their true nature ps as for mossad - i don't really think they give a f**k
