I've decided to adopt about 5 baby mice. I have an extra 5-gallon tank at home (that should do okay until my next paychecck and new tank) to put them in. The pet store in my town is horrible, and in the mouse tanks, there are 40-60 mice in each 15-gallon tank. I'll report this to the SPCA and health department this wekk, but there are pinky mice, days old, naked, blind, and being stepped onh by other mice. I've brought this to her attention beofore, she said they're fine. So I've decidedd that before the calls go out, I am going to save 5 of these newborns. MMy questions are:
1)What kind of light, heat, and bedding to the mice need?
2)Is it possible to adopt these mice, or should I try and find the mother (I have limited space and money, so I'de prefer it if I could just adopt the babies. iF it is possible to not get the mother a s well, how and what do I feed them?)
3)How do I care for newborns? No I do not have much mouse-keeping experience, and I need this info witthhin the next 2 days.

Please help! I don't have much time to wait for answers or ask mmore questions, please please help me with anything you can!!!

dust free bedding. but mice stink. like they smell really bad. even one is raunch. wat about a rat? they're nicer. and if it escapes it's bigger and easier to find. sorta

im not certain but i think it would be very hard to keep the new borns, and have them live, without their mother.

the spca isn't gonna care - you can try to report them, but basically those pinkies are snake food. Snakes gotta eat too, ya know... and rodents are never the best parents, the pinkies are lucky they are just being stepped on and aren't being eaten. Good luck

OMG OMG OMG!!! I got them! She wouldn't let me take babies cuz she said they would die, but I adopted 2 female adults, one black (named her Isabelle) and one white with black spots (Daisee) :D:D:D
They are soo sweet and sniffing their new "temp" cage (until I can get them a bigger one).
Oh, several mice in the store had swollen eyes with red around them, plus bloody faces from trying to scratch :( I called the Alberta SPCA and left a messege about it: There's pinkies being stepped on, crowded conditions, *mould* in the water bottles (!), and several mice have swollen eyes, bleeding from sctratching, and are obviously sufffering tremendously.

I'm not really sure about mice but I know with rats if you can find another rat with babies they will take in other pinkies and feed them as their own. In case the problem ever comes up again.

Yeah really! I know! I'm like "Excuse me? You'de never do that to them? You're doing it to the other hundreds of mice, moron! What you're doing is WORSE!" except I didn't say it but I would have liked to...Beat her...

Anyway so far Daisee loves being held, Isabelle's a bit more timid, but of course she's only been here a day, I'm sure she'll get calmer :) I'm sooo friggin happy right now!

English pet shops are usually really good, but in France they are sickening. They still sell puppies and cats, I went into one and they had an almost fully grown golden retreiver who couldn't stand up or turn around.. he was just lying in a tank. They had puppies hanging from the ceiling in cages.. it was heartbreaking. I don't know about America, but if you've got pet shops anything like that in your area I feel sorry for you (and the animals)
