My homepage will be a brief introduction into the world-changing event that I am asking you to join in, because I can't do it alone." "What I am asking you to do is to stop going to school. Think that's crazy...or even worse, that it's illegal? Okay, then. Exit this site right now and return to your nice safe little school. Have I caught your interest? Good. What I just said might be crazy. And yes, in a few places it is against the law. But school, believe it or not, is crushing you. Instead of helping to to become even one iota of what you are capable, it is destroying your natural curiosity and love of learning. And you CAN do something about it. You can quit and start truly LIVING, doing the things that you want to do, and learning those things which interest you most. "But wait!" I can hear you saying. "It's not that simple!" And you would be quite right. Delve into the depths of this website and I'll tell you more about it, suggest books, movies, and websites that you can check out to learn even more, and offer you a part in what can be a revolution with your help. Yes, it is not only that I want you to quit your school and start living and enjoying life. I want you to spread the word, to everyone, your friends, your sisters and brothers, anyone at all who is attending school. And once we have enough people, I want you to sit out of your school for an entire week in Protest. I know you think I'm nuts; I would think I was nuts, too, if I didn't know anything except the lies they tell us in school, like "If you drop out, you'll be flipping burgers for the rest of your days," or "The only way to get to college and therefore have a successful career and life is by going to school." Which are both lies. But you don't have to take my word for it. After all, I'm only 15. I'll give you studies done by scientists, Words of Wisdom from those older than I, and site links where you can access hundreds of teens and adults who have never gone to school and talk with them first hand! I hope that you enjoy my site, but most of all, I hope you join me and add one more voice to Our Cry. Your voice can make all the difference. " "Our Cry's mission is to spread the word about unschooling, to show everyone that teens have a voice and opinions of their own, and to show all that LIFE is learning. We need to shout it out that we can learn all we need to know without compulsory schooling, that we can live our lives to the fullest and be everything we can be without being stuck insde a classroom for eight hours a day. Our mission is to redefine the way America thinks about learning, and to throw compulsory schooling out the window. We want to be free to learn on our own, without being monitored and tested to see if we are "up to scratch," and to have a nation of free-thinkers who do not come out of an institution as simply a record on play-back mode. Our mission is to protest, to fight for our right to do this. We want the freedom to make our own choices and live our own lives! Our cry is "Hell no, we won't go!" Echoeing the slogan of protesters before us. Our mission is to live, learn, and love the best that we can, without school taking up our time and energy. "
Oh GROW UP!! The 100 million kids around the world that can't even go to primary school would kill to be in your position. This is nothing but ranting by spoiled teenagers. Newsflash: Home/unschooling is a LUXERY. Many parents cannot afford to "unschool" their kids and still afford to pay bills, let alone send them to college. I suggest you start acting like an adult and accept the fact that you will have to do things in life that you don't want to do.
You are absolutely right! You have inspired me to go and drop out of a good school which I am rather previlaged to go to! I will not sit on my ass all day, and do what I love to do... masterbate till my dick blows off! I do not need a future. Fuck, I'll just drop any chance I have of getting a good job, or of going to college, and instead will sit on my ass at my parent's expense! Sounds like joly fun! I will stop gonig to classes that educate me and that actually teach me something! To classes that I find interesting! Who needs them, when we are FORCED to go to school. I will stop socializing with my friends, whom I mostly see in school, and will just sink into my inner self... we all know that that is the thing to do! Yes! 15 year old, but, how, can I ask, did you learn to write? Was it not school in the first place? Ofcourse not! I am positive that a person with your intellectual capacity has thought oneself to read and write! Who needs school for that silliness, ehh? Hell, we'd be better off illiterate anyhow, that way we would not have to read all of them mind challenging books and such... we could just sit and masterbate, do what we all like!
The idea is not ignorant. I believe kids can learn a lot more outside of the mind controling education system. Some kids might not be able to do it, but I think the one's that can should. You can learn at your own pace, by yourself. Not in a classroom with 40 other kids where the teacher really dosnt give a shit whether you pass or fail.
Then you should get further schooling outside of the classroom. THe calssroom is essential with our social system. High School graduates have it much easier in life. Also, how can you determine, at such a fragile age as teenhood, who can own at his own pace and who can't?
cool. now drop out and get a job, your own place to live, don't borrow money from mom and dad and get to LEARNING.
which means everyone has different opinions and needs. No need to bash other people thoughts. Everyone is entitled the right to his or her own opinions. As for unschooling, it was a random thought - I just posted it here. There ARE unschoolers that are doing fine though. IDEAS, WRITERS, People associated with unschooling (Jean?) ROUSSEAU John LOCKE John Holt John Taylor Gatto Grace LLEWELYN Mary Griffith Wendy Priesnitz Valerie and Laurie Fitzenreiter Mandy Tyler Sandra Dodd Pam (Srooshian?) Pat Farenga Peter and Mae Kowalke Heather Martin Many famous people were self educated also.
I really don't agree with some of that girls reasoning. But the system right now is fucked. I worked hard through my high school years, graduated with a 3.2 GPA, and was 2 points away from getting an honors diploma. But the SAT's, well, that's a different story. The SAT's are an extremely unfair way to judge people. They number and label you. That's all the colleges care about though. Maybe I don't test well? Well, fuck, I'm shit out of luck, huh? Maybe I don't like being crammed in a room with 30 kids for like 5 hours doing nothing but staring at questions. And then they time it. At least give us a fighting chance. The high school system is full of teachers who really do not like their job, and are there for nothing than to get enjoyment from failing kids. Maybe not that extreme, but if you think that school's are full of awesome teachers, you better get a reality check. I've had many a teacher who really don't give a fuck, and if you don't understand something, well, oh well.
You have the right to your opinion, and we have the right to bash it if we see it as idiotic. Lovely, so you names a list of nine, while you want to encourage a couple of million to quit school. Good thinking!
I agree, the SATs are flawed. More and more universities are starting to ignore them now-a-days. Plus, a general SAT formal has been changed, adding the essay... which would make it extremely different, and hopefull better. The SAT is there because a university cannot simply judge a person by his grades, since every school has a different level of difficulty. A person who might be a wonderful student might have a bad GPA for various reasons, but then that person's SAT score might prove that the person is indeed capable of suceeding.
Do you know who Rousseau and Locke are? The Teenage Liberation Handbook I just named people who are more known in that community.
It's "Rousseau", you ask me if I know who he is, while you yourself cannot even spell his name? Lovely, so you names some names who actually got by without education because of thier won predominant intelligence. Yet, your average American is not too smart... how will he survive?
and since rousseau is log dead, he's no longer "doing fine." geniuses are an exception, not the rule.
...Not to mention the fact that half of those people on your list lived hundreds of years ago when it was a MUCH different world....a world where you didn't need an education to maintain a decent job. High school is not forever, grow the fuck up.
God, I hate it when kids drop out because they don't want to be in the system or whatever, and thenm mooch off their poor parents for the rest of their lives. I would never do that to my parents. I am glad that I went to school, graduated, and then moved on to a University. I have learned so much and grown so much as a person since attending college.
