I grew up in the South and there's nothing about the rebel flag to be proud of - sorry, dude - that's just my opinion only. It's now a symbol of violence and hatred.

and i could easily say that the peace sighn is just a symbol of a bunch of lazy folk who are happy to take advatange of their freedom as a american citizen, but have to get all preachy when the time comes to defened it. now, of course there's more to the peace sign than that, and the same goes with the rebel flag. you see, the mistake people make is that they connect the civil war and slavery too much. that war wasnt about slavery, it was about what most wars are, money and power. it was the united states trying to recapture something they had lost control of. it's really no different than the revolutionary war. the CSA was seceding for their domination and, like england and the colonies, they didnt like losing their power. and at the time, slavery made for the perfect justification for war, but it was really only a small part of it.

in other words, Don't Tread On Me. that's what the flag repreesents to me.

 

im no expert but i think slavery and the civil war is very much so connected.

 

for arguments sake:
you'll smoke up your pet, but you get upset by smoking up a child. please explain the difference.

Although the war wasn't started because of slavery, in my mind the subtle difference is that slavery was a good reason to terminate the existence of the CSA. Sure there are comparisons between the Civil War and other revolutionary wars, but just because the CSA felt persecuted doesn't mean they had any more right than anyone else to exist while upholding such evil institutions.

Back on topic: They deserve whatever they get.
