I grew up on Windows, just recently switched to Ubuntu (Linux), and love it!
Ubuntu is named after this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_%28philosophy%29

which I think is really cool, since Ubuntu is free and made by the community.
Any Ubuntu users out there? discuss!

I love that its so easy to use, has loads of free applications and its constantly growing. it takes some getting used to though and can be glitchy, but there's a huge support community out there.

I've been using Linux in one form or another for 15 years. I currently have Ubuntu on my laptop, and SuSE on my desktop.

I honestly believe that if a person were to sit down and use a computer for the first time, Ubuntu would be easier to learn from scratch than Windows or MacOS.

agreed. I think if more people knew about Linux, especially Ubuntu, Windows and Mac would go out of business.

I've been using Linux exclusively for about three years, and I still get a kick when I see Ubuntu being mentioned in a forum that's not necessarily Linux-specific. Thanks for making me smile.

I've been a MS user since personal computing began. Although I've been a fan of open source software, I have always avoided linix like it was the plague.

Two weeks ago or so, I broke down and installed ubuntu as a second operating system.

Since then, I've installed it on all my computer as my only OS.

There are some things that I still find annoying, like not being able to run a lot of software (seems it was written specifically for MS) without running another program (like WINE), but overall, I am 100% a convert.

The best way I can describe the difference between ALL MS products, and Ubuntu, is with MS its like owning a car that you spend 95% of your time working on the car and only 5% actually driving it, whereas with Ubuntu, you work on it 5% of the time and drive it the other 95%.

I love your car metaphor. Yes, I was so comfortable with Windows, never thought to use anything else. I had used Mac but it seemed pretty useless. My boyfriend (an avid Windows supporter at the time) switched to Ubuntu, and within a day had sworn off Windows and was now worshipping Unbuntu.
At first it seemed pretty corny to me and I figured this was another one of his phases, the latest thing.
Just a week later my Windows crashed beyond repair and I had a school essay due. He installed Ubuntu on my computer and assured me I could do all the things I could on Windows and more.
I begrudgingly accepted and started using it. Now I love Ubuntu too! Its wonderful to use, perfect for a student, and I truly believe if Mac and Windows users, if everyone knew about Linux and Ubuntu, Windows and Mac would die out.
