So I am trying to form a tribe. I want to form this tribe over the net because it will gives me time to get members together, mainly but it also gives me time to think about how our society will work. So far I am thinking that I want 6-15 members. We will live in Washington, the Olympia Peninsula area. We will live on the various national parks in that area, water will be easy to come by because it rains a LOT. If you don't like rain then this tribe will not be for you. We can get food by fishing and gathering. We will also have some workers within our tribe that can go down into town for the essentials. I want a semi structured commune but all that can be negotiated. The only thing that is permanent so far is where we will be living, Washington State. The reason that I have decided on Washington is because it is a beautiful place out in the only rain forests in America, there are mountains, the ocean, lakes, trees, lots of rain. A great place to live off the land IMO. Other things to consider is that we need a vehicle from day one and I don't own one sadly. We will need one for the trips to work and into town for supplies. Preferably a van or something large enough to hold most of our members at a time. We will need some cash at the begining as well. That way we can buy everything that we will need. Tents, bags, rain coats, ect. I would love to meet some people and get together as a family to live off the land like my ancestors(I am 50% Native American) did. I think that this would be an awesome experience. We would get to live outside in one of the most beautiful places in America, maybe the world. As far as a name for a tribe goes, I haven't decided and I won't make any decisions until I have 5 or 6 members. As far as the future...I will expect to live this way for at least a year and a half but I am definitely looking forward to it and if it makes us happy I would love to live this way for much longer than two years. If anyone is interested then please PM me. If you have any questions just post or PM me. I guess all that is left to say is......rettyplease: haha. Thanks for reading, guy's.
I forgot to mention that health is going to be a big issue for me. We will eat healthily. You can choose your diet. I am not going to be strict but no one with any type of addictions is going to be permitted to join our family. When I say addictions I mean anything from caffeine to meth. I am allergic to nicotine, not horribly allergic but I don't want it around me. I drink the occasional beer, no big deal. The occasional soda is no big deal either but we won't be spending all of our funds on these things, we will be living a healthy natural life, off the grid for the most part. Now we will be traveling into town for stuff, work and the occasional stroll back into the modern day living so there will be a lot fun for us in town and out by the fire and out by the lake. This will be an amazing life changing journey and we will experience things that we did not know we were capable of before. So like I said before, PM me or post if interested!
So, you want to go squat in a park and camp for a year or two. That means anything that anyone puts into this idea, will last no longer then the next time you get run off by the park rangers... (edited to fix it so it did make sense) Something your ancestors realized, is that life (living off the land) isn't about the day to day life of it... it is about finding your place in the cycle of life... Yet, you don't even plan on being there for two full cycles of the seasons and you speak of it like its a long time. Ignoring what your ancestors did... what experience do YOU bring to this endeavour?
What idea have you proposed? You have nothing, you want to go camping if you can find others with the stuff you need... Oh, and there was nothing passive about my opinion of your intelligence.
No, I'm proposing a lifestyle with people who have nothing...like me. A family that lives in the wild, people who can't live happily from modern day living. Don't you have anything better to do than sit here and make remarks on something that you will never partake in? Seriously, I thought people were supposed to have some form of respect on these stupid sites. You have judged me after how many posts? Three? I thought that this site was peaceful and without judgment, guess I was wrong. With all the respect that I can still gather for you...will you please stop posting in my thread? You are wasting my time and you are doing it in a malicious and ungrateful manner. I proposed a peaceful topic and you come slander it with meaningless bull. What experience do you have on ANYTHING other than being judgmental and negative? Answer that and then please leave, nothing that you are doing in this thread has any good intentions behind it.
Oh! Now I get it!!! You have this "perfect idea" of what the "perfect" commune/group/tribe should be like. No wonder you are freaking out at my idea because it is obviously not perfect...it has not been executed and therefore you think that I don't know crap and that my idea is completely horrible because it is nothing like what your "perfect commune" would be like...and you are superior, am I right? So here's the deal and why my commune works for me. It is for people who have very little money, can't really get a job and really don't have any where to turn to in life and it's for people who just don't want to live with the modern day trivial pursuit in happiness. The thing that you call a commune is different from what I call a commune and therefore you have no respect for me. See, your idea of a commune is all about who has the most money and who is putting in the most work. I've read that in the other thread and so I know that our ideas contradict each other. that's fine but I'm not insulting your ideas so...what else can be said?
No, you are not. You stated some of the requirements that you have, and offered no way to get them. Something better? I guess that's open to interpretation... Living in the country on land I bought, building a permanent place for me and those that choose to join me. Finding solutions to the problems that crop up when doing these things in real life as opposed to dreaming of what may be... See, here's the thing about the internet, you don't get to choose who responds to you. As for my meaningless bull... I asked what you personally were bringing to this idea seems you stated that you have nothing. Your answer was that you have the ability to adapt and learn. Wonderful... what do you know? When I decided that I wanted a place where people who didn't have much could come and build a home together, I looked around and found a path that led me to a place where I could build just that. I spent the time and energy finding solutions to make it happen. Three times I started it, the first two times in 'partnership' with people who said they were after the same thing in life, only to have them run away when reality crashed their bubbles... The last time, I started it on my own, not being willing to tie my future to the likes of people who talk about doing something, but never do. Since then, I have been working and building directly on my property that has an open offer to people who actually want to do something rather then just talk about it online and blow smoke up each others ass. I live what I talk... THAT is the experience I have... that is also the reason that when yet another person such as yourself comes along, and without reading any of the 100's (if not 1000's) of posts in this forum dedicated to people doing just what you have proposed, and offering nothing except demands for the way you want things, I speak up and point these things out... One would hope that you would have the ability to learn and adapt to the new reality you now find yourself in by joining in a forum where people have been doing what you are suggesting, in some cases for decades and decades, and others have been working for decades to make them actually happen.
If you don't want me posting here all you have to do is ask me to leave. EDIT: I'm also not really expecting any people to be interested in this after such a trivial argument so there really is no reason to continue in this discussion.
Where did I say don't post here? You are the only one who said that... and you said it to me. You are not doing the same thing I did. I had nothing but a bad credit rating and no income, and I found a way to do this. You say I sit on my high horse and look down on you and say you can't do something? What did I say you couldn't do? I said you haven't done anything. See the difference? You say you want to live on land for free, because land is free? That's one of those issues where reality likes to intrude on dreamers and slap them upside the head... Land is not free. No matter how much you may wish to wax philosophical over whether or not it should be, it is not. You can cry foul over my responses all you wish, but if you chose to back up and re-read the thread, you will realize that all I did was point out a fact (that you later tried to argue with by agreeing with???) and ask you what you brought to the table. Your response was to accuse me of attacking you and flaming you. You have set the tone for this conversation... If you do not like it, I would suggest you find a way to change it.
I have a way to change it. One of us leaves the thread. If you'd like I will, I have nothing left to say unless a member is interested in my proposal which they won't be after you bashed me...thanks.
I did not go out and say to people, come on, I have nothing and no plan to do this, I just have a vague idea, but you should drop everything you are doing and come join me. As for giving you a break... Give you a break??? As I said, YOU set the tone for this conversation and you continue to maintain the same tone. I don't think I see me 'giving you a break' anytime soon....
I'm gonna have to agree that I don't like the idea of using the National Parks as a free place to live isn't the whole idea of nature preserves to keep people from ruining them by moving in?
I would suggest start by checking your Native American status. Often there are tribal lands available to persons wishing to live the 'old ways.' Living in National Forest land or BLM land sucks because you are always getting hassled. I lived in the wilderness of Southern Oregon for two years, and campfire smoke will get you busted every time! Small plane constantly search for wildfires, and 'farmers.' Thankfully I have been able to escape to Alaska.
well tom I mean its an idea right.... good on ya for having a dream dude! I think tom is just trying to get you to see some of the things you may not have thought out 100% have you ever stayed in a park? I think its 7 days or 14 before you have to tear down and move at least 20 ft away...so good bye permanent structures... staying dry is extremely hard, when your actually living outdoors, even in tents...anmd your really not going to be spending all day in a tent. Im all down for people living together forming small societies...and Ive explored what your saying...and I respect your dream. hell Im just glad your not saying your gonna hike out into alaska and live on an old bus over the winter....... good luck brother. I suggest you go to couple rainbow gatherings just to see if living outdoors is really up your alley.... I
No, actually, it was a fantasy... if it was an idea, he would have stayed to discuss his idea, instead of taking everything I said as an insult. I'm all for people having ideas and working to bring those ideas to reality. However, when asked about the idea and asked to explain it, if the response is to take it as an insult, and to attack based upon that perceived insult, then it is nothing but fantasy and never will be anything other then fantasy. You know better then most what it takes to take an idea from dream to reality, and how often, at the first sign of trouble, most will just run away and abandon all and any who are left. Is the idea of living as a nomadic tribe in state parks possible? Of course it is... Will this guy do it? He may start it and drag some kids out into the wilderness, but he will do as he did here at the first sign of trouble... Run away...
well yeah.... I would bet on the first time he got wet and couldnt sleep.... Imay have something ne win the works, right now Im just talking with some of the ALREADY tribe and seeing what sort of feedback im getting, Im not throwing it on the tribe threads YET.. but thinking about maybe sailing around the world ..may take a few years to make happen, and could be at this point be just a fantasy, but Im starting the leg work and have 4 others ...since yesterday lol who are willing to throw down 5 grand on the cause... I still shake my head sometimes at how easy it is to raise tribe cash but how much of a pain in the ass it is to keep my head above water in babylonj..... yeah so we found a blue water boat 35 ft in the carolinas, its built for this sort of venture... gonna take a hell of a lot of work...but Im thinking this could reallyhappen. Ill keep you updated. I have to get my ass up to your land this summer at some point... pm me your addy and ill type it in my gps, maybe some night Ill just drive up there...lol peace oh and little dreamer... keep on dreaming man just because some people dont believe in you...and think you will fail....hold on to that..if anything now you have the START of what you will need to pull of a tribe. a righteous indignation , if you need to get pssed off to make it happen then do it, if you need to argue every one who tears you down...do it..learn from them, fight the fight. I agree 100% with what tom is saying I dont believe that you are prepared, ready, or even have more then just a concept at this point, but if your EVER going to pull it off, you cant give up as soon as someone on these forums laughs at you. I used to get laughed at ALL the time... check out some of the older highway child threads, Id spend half my time defending the idea... you know what it taught me?....you cant accomplish ANYTHING by NOT fighting for your dreams.... I think you will give up... I think its an idea spawned out of a sence of connection to your roots your inability to accept society ..which Isnt a bad thing... tom hit the nail on head...its hard doing your own thing... hes seen it Ive seen it, you have to work your ass to the bone watch the sparks and get laughed at ... put faith in people who will ulitmatlyu bail on you when things get rough.... leave you alone in new orleans 2000 km from home with no supplies gear or resources...and YOU have to figure it out, CHOOSE to quit and fly home or keep going pan handle for supplies sit and make stock to sell, meet people from no where build a community get fuel...and get back on that fucking highway./..... that was hard when that happened...but now its hapened so many damn times or something like that...it becomes second nature..and all the time people will tell you to give up and go home be normal accept what you dont want to accept.... and then eventually you give, you get a job you fit in, you buy the house and the fucking mini van...then babylon tries to cuff you to the job, takes your home, wipes all that youve worked for and tries to take your choice from you.... you hang yourslef by a tree to escape....to finally give up...and its not the bankers lawyers or judges that cut you down....but its the fucking tribe you built suffered for, worked for.....that stands over your body as you open your eyes and they beet you with the rope for bieng so god damn stupid.... you can bail on your dreams.....or you can make your dreams real by getting the crap beat out of you...which I gauruntee it WILL happen at least once... \ but man up, get strong grow those caluses on your feet and make your mark.. or maybe that day will come for you...but you wont have the tribe to cut you down and kick your ass in gear!!!! peace!!!!!!!!
Sailing around the world eh? A canoe on a lake, a kayak on a river... hell yeah... anything on the ocean... with sharks and shit... fuck no...lol http://www.jessicawatson.com.au/ She fucking amazes me... Talk about getting out on your own...lol As for the op... An idea is a dream you can defend. The fact that you were so defensive right out of the gate is what tells me that you either need to learn some more, or find someone else to take point on this... You think I was harsh by simply asking what background you have? What in the fuck would you do when a couple of park rangers come upon you and start interrogating you or worse?
Okay, I just have to step into this heated thread. I understand Tom's frustration with posts like this. The OP seems to be essentially describing Rainbow, which for me is the PROOFING GROUND for people capable of really engaging in community, re-empowering their will after being beaten down by Babylon. Makarov, if you haven't been, I suggest you go. Tribe's ROUTINELY form in Rainbow, quite naturally and organically. Go and create and provide something. If you have a strong vision, and express it with ACTION, others will find their orbits with you, and a tribe will be formed. TRIBE is a feeling, a togetherness, a unity in our daily lives, that I have seen many times, and is RARELY found on the net.
