We have been lied to since the foundation of this country as a '"free" country.~ There is no true Separation of Church and State and in fact the violation of The 1st Amendment of The Constitution of The United States of America continues to this day. And although the former was a phrase by Thomas Jefferson, the latter is a apart of the foundation and development of The United States of America. The evidence is right in front all our faces every single day, LOOK! LOOK UPON THE GREEN STRIPS OF PAPER YOU HOLD IN YOUR HANDS THAT OUR GOVERNMENT GIVES SO MUCH VALUE TO, LOOK CLOSELY UPON THEM AND YOU WILL SEE THE VIOLATING WORDS OF, "In God we trust." NOT THE STATE WE TRUST OR IN THE GOVERNMENT WE TRUST, BUT IN "GOD" WE TRUST A DEITY AN ABSTRACT CONCEPTION OF POWER THAT OUR GOVERNMENT FAVORS SO MUCH THEY INSIST ON IMPOSING UPON ALL OUR VERY MONETARY TRANSACTION MATERIALS WHETHER WE "TRUST" IN THIS "GOD" OR NOT THUS IN AT LEAST FAVORING THE BASIS OF MANY RELIGIONS THE BELIEF IN A "GOD". I PURPOSE A TRUE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, REMOVE ALL MENTION AND FAVORITISM OF ALL DEITIES, OF ANY BELIEFS AND ALL TRACES OF ANY RELIGION WHATSOEVER. IT SHOULD NOT BE, "In GOD we trust." BUT, "In the People, State and Government we trust." THIS IS EVEN IN OUR VERY PLEDGE OF ALLIGENCE, "One nation under God..." WE ARE NOT A NATION UNDER ANY "GOD" WE ARE DIVERSE PEOPLE OF MANY RELIGIONS, BELIEFS, AND VALUES, OR NON-BELIEFS! Furthermore, WHO ARE THEY THE GOVERNMENT TO FAVOR 1 RELIGIOUS VIEW POINT OF ANYTHING? Marriege need not the approval of the state, government or people, but when we do seek it WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO EITHER MARRY WHOMEVER WE WANT OF HOW MANY EVER WE WANT OR NOT AT ALL AS RECOGNIZED BY THE LAW, TO DO SO OTHERWISE IS TO DESCRIMINATE BASED UPON WHAT?! ONE FAVORED RELIGIOUS VIEWPOINT LIMITING THE CONCEPT OF MARRIEGE TO A MAN AND A WOMAN?! RELIGIOUS FAVORITISM!!~ FREEDOM OF LEGAL MARRIEGE OR NON AT ALL!~
Ignoring the flawed issues in our very government system and it's hypocracies may be easier, but did we bow out when the King of Britain demanded taxes from us across the ocean?~
The Pledge of Allegiance, as it was written in 1892, actually reads, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." The Pledge was formally adopted in 1942, and in response to a push from several religious societies and those affiliated with various churches, Eisenhower (a baptized Presbyterian) actually changed the wording, stating "From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty... In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource, in peace or in war." The change was passed in Congress and formally adopted in 1954. As a true believer in separation of church and state, this positively sickens me! As for "In God We Trust," it's been on coins since 1864 and bills since 1957 (shortly after the adoption of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance). It was adopted as the official motto of the US in 1956 and was supposedly originated in the Star Spangled Banner. It was not popularized until the American Civil War, when Americans decided to become overly religious. Funny how this follows the creation of the First Amendment in which was adopted in 1791! This stated, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Oh the hypocrisy! Until mankind becomes truly enlightened, religion will always be prevalent. Humans feel the need to define, name, and control everything. Religion is just another way to do this. Not only is religion a way to justify daily actions and wrongdoing, it is a way to explain death, creation, and all unknowns. Generally speaking, people need something to believe in, and religion provides this. It is a comfort for those lacking the confidence to believe in themselves, the ability to accept their own actions, and the wisdom to create their own destinies. Although I firmly believe religion has no place in our schools or government, I suppose we cannot begrudge those needing faith in something their comfort. I myself was one of those many years ago. Off the tangent and back on track... As of the 2004 Census, 13% of Americans claimed no religious affiliation. Hopefully, with that much of the population distancing themselves from the modern idea of "God," we will see a lessened amount of church involvement in the decisions of our legislators!
I'm on pins and needles with the current events. I cannot wait to see what happens tomorrow! The government has absolutely no right to have any involvement in marriage. Love is love. Leave it alone! We don't need them meddling with this. Love is a basic human need, and regulation of it is not only a violation of our rights as Americans but also as humans! Certainly mankind has advanced further than this by now! Hell, we've been to the moon, but we cannot let go of religious involvement in our decision making?! *facepalm*
I know what you mean, FREEDOM OF MARRIEGE OR STAY OUT OF IT!~ ^_^ It's one thing to tell me the law doesn't recognize my marriage, that's ok, that's great, that's how I want it, now stay out of it.~ But don't tell me that a man and a woman can marry and only each other, NO that's like not caring if man walks around shirtless but all of a sudden the symbol of motherhood and the parts of a woman's body that produces milk for an infant to feed on are OBSCENE, you know what I find OBSCENE?! YOUR HYPOCRACY AMERICA, FREE AND EQUAL TREATMENT FOR ALL OR NON AT ALL!!~ Don't you DARE tell me a man and woman can go and get married, but a man and man can't and it STILL has nothing to do with religion?!!~ IF IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION THEN THE LAW WOULDN'T CARE AND WOULDN'T DESCRIMINATE, IF IT DOES HAVE TO DO WITH RELIGION IT HAS NO PLACE IN THE LAW!! PERIOD!!~ Don't you dare tell me a 300 pound man can walk down the street without a shirt with breasts THAT ARE BIGGER THAN A WOMAN'S, while a woman can't BECAUSE SHE'S A WOMAN, healthly dose of sexism anyone? I don't think so.~ TOP-FREE EQUALITY OR TELL MEN TO COVER UP!!~ It seems almost everything that is sexist, a double-standard, and discriminatory that is also legal is a result of unhealthy mixing of Church and State.~
I love the rant on top-free equality! I rage about the same thing all the time! Bliss, you're my new bestie! My cousin and her wife are the most adorable couple I've ever seen in my entire life. They are happier than any heterosexual couple I have ever met, and still they cannot be recognized by the government like all the idiots getting hitched and divorced. UGH! Shove your religious bigotry into divorce for a change! "Marriage" is now a temporary bond that does not last because it means so little in society... but the second same-sex couples want a piece of it, suddenly it is a huge religious and moral issue.
Actually it's a speech, a rant is something incohearent from my understanding and there is nothing false, inaccurate, incohearant, or illogical about anything I have said: I simply said it in mostly BIG CAPPITAL LETTERS.~ But thank you very much for your praise, I consider you also a sister in arms and a brave one at that.~
That's a good joke, if it is not I am going to completely ignore it as you obviously have taken no time whatsoever to read any of the above.~ So I bid you good day sir, madam or whatever it is you wish to be referred.~
It's not a matter of what is "good" or "bad", because for one thing those two terms are completely subjective, but most importantly not everyone "believes" the same things, not everyone "agrees" upon the same things, we in The United States of America are a country made up of many religions, many beliefs, many moralities, many people, and of many different mindsets, and in order to live our lives freely and without the tyranny of other's beliefs FORCED upon us, the foundation of this country became something that the founding people created and shaped to prevent exactly this.~ Unfourchantly some who forced their beliefs upon others whether intentional or not managed to convince the founding and the those who duty was to shape this country, into doing JUST THAT.~ How ironic and hypocritical to input things into our money system, our very pledge of allegiance, and our very government itself that were one of the very reasons we split off and became our own "country" to begin with.~
http://www.wlfi.com/dpp/news/local/marriage-rally-held-at-tippecanoe-county-courthouse The rally I was at yesterday! If anybody feels like showing their support and adding a LOVE FILLED comment, I would sincerely appreciate it! <3
Thank you for that, Dancing in the Mists.~ ^_^ I've made a comment on that article and sent them my love, and I send you my love to!~ ^_^ Love, ~Bliss
Thank you so much, Bliss! I saw it and voted it up! Hopefully, when people see the article, it will be overwhelmed with love in the comments instead of the hate and bigotry that were so prevalent this morning. <3
You are welcome!~ ^_^ We need more wonderful suggestions and things like this, thank you!~ ^_^ Love, ~Bliss
If you think about it, how much better would our lives in the USA be if church and state were completely separated?~ You could walk down the road butt naked when it is hot and no one would bat an eye because "Well, it's hot!", it's practicality and by the same token you could wear clothes while it's snowing because "Well, you don't want to freeze your parts off do you?". We could marry whoever and of how many ever we wanted if we wanted legal benefits or we would have no trouble keeping the law out of it entirely as many marriages are FAITH based NOT LEGAL based and no one would hassle us for it.~ Every law would be based upon logic and general agreement, NOT religious dogma.~ Absence of religion is not absence of morality.~ Some think if Christianity or any religiously freedom-limiting, dogmatic, self-destroying, and controlling religion never came to power then we would be FAR more scientifically and technologically advanced.~ Perhaps we would perhaps we wouldn't, the point is just because we would separate church from state completely doesn't mean we wouldn't have any morals.~
Considering that so many people, that have been high up the hierarchy of both religions and government have no morals as it is now... that's not really saying much.
I know that, I was referring to people who would be of the inclination to think just because church and state would be completely separated that we wouldn't have any morals, but thank you for supporting my point even if you did not intend to.~ The argument for morals in the law is arguing for a concept that is never concrete, never solid, and is always changing, in short you cannot regulate laws or make laws based upon morals because everyone sense of morality is different.~ Our country was founded and shaped with the intention to be free and equal, when laws are based upon the religious dogma of only 1 religion in a country of many, that is called oppression by forcing the legality and way of life based on SOMONE ELSE'S SENSE OF MORALITY on others.~
