to much hanging with dave matthews is turning trey gay... he needs to go eat some L and hangout in the barn and write some more classic tunes like we know he can do....phish is over maybe because they should have spent more time in VT. instead of doing dave and friends tour....just a thought...thank god for u.m
aggreed. Saw that thing where him and dave went down to africa, and it was pretty dissapointing. Though he was always the corporate-whore element of the band. Got to have somebody to go around putting up "drummer wanted" signs

i think trey got sick of fuzzy hippy girls who were sluts for coke. so he hooked up with dave to get some makeup teenybop girls. but back to the umphrey's bashing . . . . what is it about them, i find thier music completely empty, and ive seen them a few times now, the only redeeming quality i can think of is hippy girls go to the shows, and i dont want to be that guy, i like goin for the music. but i just dont feel thier vibe. do they have a vibe?
umphrey's' sound is sooo huge your tiny brain cannot comprehend its glory. plus it's just too crazy, and no, i can't either. at least it's fucking nuts and not dave. plus they covered fugazi. fuckyeah!
a bunch of repeating arpeggios and alternating metal lick solos. a low budget lightshow in the spirit of phish.
It humours me that everyone one of your post is how "umphrey rules". And to let you know, that's not a good thing.
Umphrey's is being bashed? so sad, some people just don't get it. but thats alright, makes the shows less crowded
im not bashing anybody, i just cant get thier sound? im asking someone, anyone, who can say anything other than umphrey's rule, to fill me in. maybe im looking at thier music in the wrong light.
I can only offer my experiences. at their shows I've just felt energy, an vibrating agreement between my body and the music. Hey, you don't have to dig it, I don't enjoy some bands others do. Umphrey's McGee does it for me.
well i guess your not a fan ..i seen phish over a hundred times and loved every one of them....but u.m is not a phish rip off they took the good and the bad from phish and put there spin on the jamband sound so i guess you love it or hate it i love it!!!u.m is so much tighter than any other jamband out right now
i guess i just dont like the million notes approach. i like quick picken, but ive seen umphreys 5 or 6 times now, and the last two times i had to leave after a couple of songs. i just didnt feel it, it didnt sound like they felt it either. trey had alot of lackluster performances the past 6or 7 years of phish, but he could still bend a note, he could still put some kind of vibe or funk in the thing. i see UM as being fairly detached and emotionless in thier playing. I think YMSB is tighter than UM, keller DSO even Phix seem tighter. i do like particle and they play kinda on the same vien of UM that more metal million notes thing, but UM just dont do it. ill give em another try though . . . maybe i should just pretend to like em so i can dance with some hippy chicks again.
all i can say is download this past new years at the rivera in chicago it was one of the sickest shows i ever seen they threw down if you still dont get it after listening to that than you just dont get em
all right this is buggin me. im sure your a great dude umphreysrules, hell were about the same age, seen about the same amount of phish shows, we may have even puffed together, i might have miracled you you might have miracled me at one point, who knows . . . but this is a bit annoying. describe thier music, tell me what you feel, interpret thier sound, something other than they rule, or get it or dont get it, some something with some substance.
