There is - unfortunately - a prevailing snobbery regarding contemporary art that discourages the view of the man in the street. Despite all the flowery prose I have read here that illustrates that perfectly, the simple fact is art is either good or bad. Simple as that. No bullshit about 'merit' or that Emin's annoying, breathtaking, sheer audacity somehow entitles her to the public's money alters this simple truth. Often the man in the street is a far better barometer than the art critic as to which is which. Emin is on of the most overrated 'artists' this ocuntry has ever produced. Her work could be bettered by primary school infants. The cult comic 'Viz' has Emin spot on, along with the other young brit art 'clowns' who, collectively, are actually con-artists, not artists in the true, pure sense of the word. I watched this pavement artist in Newcastle, last summer, who was quite brilliant. Emin isn't good enough to clean his shoes, let alone try and match his ability. Her work would be laughable, were it not for the fact it costs obscene amounts of money vis a vis it's actually worth. That the BBC - PLEASE, check out the bbc licence (tv tax, of course!) resistance website www, tvlicensing.biz - funded this is a disgrace. Dr Atomik, I salute your savvy, dude.
