I am contractred out to the school a few hours a week as a school counselor. The aides are super big on restraining kids. It seems like it's just anytime their missbehaving. I've worked in group homes and Juvi before and know you have to restrain kids with emotional problems sometimes, but I've never had a problem with any of these kids.
We move in about two months. Should I tell people then or let it go?

    lol.

OT: Whatever you think'll be best, i guess. You don't want it on your conscience and if something happens to a kid.. I don't know.

If it's something that I find that it's taken a bit to the extreme, I would tell. Unnecesary restraining sounds very counterproductive.

    Yeah shop the twats.
    But think of stages.
Can u "anonymously" do it - by leaving a camera or whatever around?
(if u are doing the same thing near ish by?)

Actually are u under an "obligation" in any way?eg by contract?
I just think fuck em , they sound arseholes the managers.

If it's potentially dangerous to these kids' well being (physical or mental), it should be your job to report it. We had nasty mean aides and lunch monitors in elementary school and I don't see there being any place for that. If you can't be nice to children, you should work elsewhere!

I don't know what the system is around there, but I have signed papers for my son to be restrained when needed, but only by the certified people. (he has violent meltdowns and may hurt himself or others)

I am told about it when has occurred, and it goes in his file.

People restraining random kids for doing nothing are going to end up in a lot of trouble.
Who will you tell? If you tell the parents, you are going to get called on as a witness if shit goes down. Are you prepared to do that?

That's why it's so hard Daisy. I think you might be able to help me figure out if they're going overboard or not.
I am of the mind that you should never restrain a kid unless he is a threat to him/herself and others.
They will restrain a kid if he refuses to go to the principal's office, or transition to another activity (they will carry him in, or drag them, one kid had a rug burn from this. the mom called the cops and the cops replied the kid 'needed his ass beat'-that's small town Nevada for you).
When I worked in a more direct care position I would move all the other kids out of the classroom and take away the attention and the stimuli. I mean IMO I would rather inconvience 30 than accidentaly hurt one.
Do you think their reason's are valid or is it abuse?
The majority of these children have Aspergers or are emotionaly disturbed.

I can't, now that I think about it. 3/4 have at least 100 pounds on me. It's something with Fernley, because I am far from 'petite'. There's a serious lack of healthy food availible here and while Andy and I can drive to Reno to do our grocery shopping, most of the town is unemployed and can't.
I drove by the soup kitchen yesterday and the line was around the block (for a town that only has 4,000 people)

If my son is restrained, the classroom is evacuated first, they don't do it in front of his peers.

I can't say if what you are describing would be abuse because I haven't seen it. They could be using the more intense program. We are on a waiting list to get my son into an Aspie class where they focus more on behaviour modification, so that he will learn to handle his small problems and be less violent. He wants to go to university be an engineer and I am worried he won't even be able to go to high school...

Is there a program director you could talk to?

i used to go to sbh (severely behaviorally handicapped) schools. i will tell you that restraining just escalates most things with these kids. take away privelages or create a fine sysytem
