Yesterday I had the last trip I probably will have for a little while at an old head's basement with 3 friends. We took 2 tabs each (250-300ug)
We had an excellent time, we had fruit smoothies and a great walk outside.
We rode the couches and beanbags through space and we jammed out on the numerous guitars and drums and synthesizers in the basement. We drew some great pictures that took hours each.

The part that stands out for me was during the walk when we were discussing time. I realized that time is always moving forward. I was coming up with possible ideas regarding the nature of time based on my highschool understanding of physics and discussing it with my friends. We discussed how possibly time actually started at the big bang. Maybe time is still ACCELERATING forward or outward as we believe the matter of the universe is. Maybe there is some kind of force causing this to happen and maybe time actually carries some kind of inertia because of it's movement. Some people believe that when the universe reaches a critical point of expansion it will begin collapsing back to the centre.
Would the same thing happen to time (going backwards)?
    Is time finite?
Would all of this happen in every alternate dimension?

I don't know if a lot of these questions have been asked before, but i thought I would share with you guys and get your inputs :afro:

Very cool ideas, I do not believe, however, that the universe will ever cease to exist or fall back within it self like an imploding neutron star.
I wouldn't say time moves forward either. It's just there to help us keep track of things I guess. Everyone's perception of it is different we,re all always just in this point in the now

Is time required for the universe to exist?

Also, perhaps the same questions can be asked if time is moving in a fractal pattern, it would still be moving in a predictable pattern.

We also discussed the idea of light years. They say that if you could move at or above the speed of light time would be much different and time would affect you must less or not at all through the space you move through. We discussed that maybe the idea of light years is BS because time wouldn't affect the rays in the same way we predict it would.

No, time is contained within the universe, as an idea. Now is the universe an idea?
I keep seeing this commercial on discovery of this guy saying if we can travel faster then light we can go back I time... Well I call bs

A lightyear is a measurement of distance, not time.

Time is not a fixed constant in the universe and it's measurement is effected by gravity. That has been conclusively proven.
Also bear in mind that our concept of time is a measurement of entropy. Our main time keeping instruments, atomic clocks, is the measurement of the decay (entropy) of a radioactive substance.

Yes, if we could travel faster than light, we could travel back in time, sort of.
If you could travel faster than light and left Earth always looking back at it, you would end up seeing past events as you passed the light from those events.
Just think of the fact that the light from the sun takes 8 minutes to reach us, so when you look at the sun, you are seeing how it was 8 minutes ago. simple concept, just extrapolate it out as far as you want.
Problem is we will never achieve faster than light speed travel given what we know thus far. As we move closer to the speed of light our relative mass also increases and it would get to a point of infinite mass requiring infinite energy to propel us.

Though there is the theory that light speed travel is not needed to traverse the universe because as we approached light speed space itself would warp relative to our ship and in essence, if we could control the warping, we would "bend" space to get to our destination without needing to move faster than light.
If we could travel faster than light speed than yes, time would essentially stop for the traveler, but not for an observer.

I've honestly forgotten a lot of this type of stuff and the above is a rather simplistic attempt to explain some of it.

I think that it gets much stranger than time accelerating or going backwards, I actually believe that in a sense all time exists right now, "somewhen", which means that this all has happened, and will happen, just this way

But still, good attempt. I can't write about it well either, I can barely get my head around some of the concepts.
Hence, one of my sig quotes.

I found this summary on time recently. Covers all the basics I think.

I'll teach you to forget the truths
    you always knew
    See what might be,
    See what might have been
    Though you yourself created me,
Your own mistake has set me free

I was your slave, now you are mine

I understand what a light year is. I'm just saying, maybe you are seeing the earth as it is now because the light isn't effected by time as it moves at the speed of light. Just an idea...

Same here, based on my experience on shrooms. It got to the point where it wasn't even time dilation-it was the lack of existence of time. Which is strange considering I was listening to music, and it didn't sound slowed down at all. Hard to describe. Personally, I believe that is how existence in heaven is like.

Great post op. But I question the validity of the theory of time going backward. If I walk down a beach in the sand then decide to retrace my steps backwards the footprint will remain. Like you can't un-ring a bell or put a broken egg together. The results of action is a building block or foundation for further action be it forward or backward.

it's always bothered me about going faster than the speed of light to "stop time." i understand what noxious said, about if you were looking back at earth, it would take time for the light to reach your eyes, so you'd be observing the past...but to me that is not "going back in time." it's just moving really fast away from what you're looking at. the dude would still get physically old right? like if he sped away from the earth at the speed of light for a whole year, by the end of it, he might be seeing last years' events on earth (if he could see that far?!?), but his body would still be a year older, right?
