Listening to Black Flag's Damaged album. Good stuff as always. For whatever reason, my mind has wandered into thoughts on how the whole production process after the artist plays his notes and sung his songs, is so different from what it used to be. What would this album have sounded like if they had access to all of today's digital production wizardry? They'd probably sound all clean and not at all the same. Some music should be dirty, right? Where does the underground go when the underground has whored itself and molded itself to popular culture's perception of it? Further underground? MORE PUNK!!! Um, OK. Maybe. But I'm not seeing it. Machine and money and music have fused. We're next.

...now where'd I put that pipe?
