I have to let this out because it's just bothering me, seeing so many people complaining so many people letting their families fall apart, so many people declaring 'great change needs to happen', people protesting.

There seems to me to be an extreme shortage of jobs for stupid people, people who don't posses a high level of knowledge of extremely complex and difficult subjects like mathematics or computer science. Jobs like cash register jobs, accounting jobs, grocery store jobs, call center jobs, department store jobs, restaurant jobs, machine shop jobs, construction jobs, paperwork jobs.

On the contrary, there seems to be an extreme over abundance of high paying work for anyone who can demonstrate a reasonable level of proficiency at high level mathematics and computer science. Literally, it seems like there are hundreds of companies out there actively LOOKING for people to throw thousands of dollars at if they can demonstrate just a reasonable level of proficiency in computer science. College degree or no college degree, does not matter. I see people losing their families, there houses, falling apart every which way. But if they just learnt Linear Algebra, Vector Calculus, C, C++, Objective-C and how to comprehend highly complex computer systems, they'd be having to turn down jobs.

Will sheer necessity of survival push humanity towards higher levels of cognitive ability? As asshol-ish as it may be to say, it is the only thing that ever has.

It may be getting to the point where not knowing how to comprehend complex logical systems, not knowing high level mathematics and not knowing how to program a computer may really be a risk to your survival. Many top schools are making Computer Programming a standard necessity for any field of science, architecture to engineering. Because more and more people are graduating in architecture or engineering, but then they end up working in computer science because its so in demand.

Personally I don't see this as a fluke, I don't see it as bad. I see this as being so because currently we are in the rapid transition to a technological, robotic, cybernetic culture. We are freeing humans from having to waste away their lives stocking store shelves, serving and preparing food, working cash registers, driving trucks, driving cars, packaging and manufacturing items. We are doing this by creating robots to replace all these careers. And the people who are pushing technology the direction of creating these robots are having smooth sailing, and people still trying to do the job of a robot are struggling.

You know many psychedellic philosophers talked about this, Terence Mckenna, Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary. This was an entire mantra of the counter culture movement. Don't do demeaning work, don't be a robot, don't do the work of a robot. Be a human, do the work only a human can do. Be creative, PUSH the boundary, create new. CREATE THINGS TO FREE HUMANITY FROM DEMEANING ROBOTIC SLAVE EXISTENCE, this was a prime topic of MANY of Timothy Leary's lectures, he would always talk down about 'humans being robuts' and the need to liberate humanity from having to do 'robut' tasks. I see the transition to the robotic age, and the replacing of humans with robots to be the direction extension and blossom from the counterculture. I believe that the people who followed the true hippie mantra of the counter culture are now the current technological millionaires in San Francisco and silicon Valley. All these 'poor' hippies today, with tie died shirts, protesting and angry, I think just absolutely missed the fucking point of the counter culture. The counter culture wasn't JUST about being angry at 'The System and The Man'. The counter culture was about being angry at the man and the system because it forced you to live a demeaning life doing terrible work your entire life. It seems to me the UNintelligent hippie interpretted that as 'Disconnect from the system, have no part in it, and don't do anything', whereas the INTELLIGENT hippie interpreted that as 'Create the technology and robotics to do all the demeaning unfullfilling jobs that humans shouldn't be doing, in order to free humans from having to do them themselves'.

You see the direction the counter culture and the hippies were heading in was correct, has been correct, and still is correct, and has actually come to be the cutting edge and most successful thing humanity ever has done. Just it gathered a few too many morons along the way that only thought it was about colorful fabrics, drugs and being angry at the government. No it is about LIBERATION humanity and it always has been, all the way back to Crowley and its magickal occult roots. As it stands today it is robots and technology that can finally liberate humanity from having to do the bullshit. No amount of protesting or being angry at the government will do it.

You receive a failing grade on this essay mostly for the abundance of run-on sentences, other grammar mistakes, and complete absence of a thesis statement.

    you may have a point...

If computers did all the menial tasks we WOULD have more time to bitch about the government. HMMMM

Honestly though you're talking about a time that would be considered a big jump in human civilization, and trying to tie it in with the hippie movement that was mostly grounded in anti-war and civil rights movements.

Honestly look at the world as it is today and tell me such revolution wouldn't come without a lot of war and strife.

It will come with alot of war and strife. But my entire point is, it doesn't have to.

People who work in high levels of computer science actually have some of the most relaxed and forgiving work schedules and project timelines of any proffesion.

I know its 'Common Sense' among certain groups of people that 'everyone is struggling', unless you started out a millionaire. But really, certain skillsets and certain proffesions are just thriving without any struggle and any hardship.

So, if one can't handle a high tech mathematical job they are stupid..... Nice. Glad I don't come from your planet.

i'm not convinced that stupid=doesn't want to work with computers...

anyway, there's infinite jobs out there for people who aren't interested in programming, but a lot of people just aren't willing to work for minimum wage.

The neat thing about being a stupid person is I can endure a lot of pain which allows me to work like a dog for days on end on a boat in alaska. But when enough of us lose our jobs and the super smart people say "if you weren't so stupid you could be me". Now remember smarty pants, the pain and endurance thing. When I get hungry and I see you with all your stuff, I'm going to take it one way or another. So, you being the smart one you might want to come up with a better plan cuz I have mine.

In the past the solution has always been a World War. Which is fucked up. I would hope intergalactic spaceships will open up soon as a new option. Seems our government might be moving to make marshal law and arrests without trial a new option. Which is fucked up as well.

However one thing that I believe is ultimately going to come from the robotic and cybernetic revolution is systems which produce food by all automated means. Such as automated aquaponic facilities that can grow mass quanities of food in a small space, all automated by robotic processes. It will basically make it possible to grow immense amount of food, anywhere, for extremely cheap, with little human involvement. Solving any issues of world hunger. Another aspect of technological advancement is cheaper manufacturing. Cheaper, nicer, housing. Cheaper, nicer, cars.

All the money flowing through technology isn't just getting sucked out of thin air. It's coming from millions and millions of consumers purchasing the stuff. High technological advancement only has so much money, and it is so valuable because it is quite literally valuable to billions of people, and they all buy it, all of humanity is investing in it. The notion of someone who works in high technology saying 'be more like me', doesn't come from a desire to feel BETTER than others, it comes from a desire to see more people helping more people on a larger scale by trying to evolve technology faster. Its a way of saying, do more for humanity.

Working with computers I think is the wrong term. Just working with computers is not sufficient, as you could just be a typist and thats really a no brainer job.

The more accurate term would be 'advance technology'.

I do think those that are actively pushing technology to new levels are on a level above everyone else.

This has to be one of the most insuting things I have ever read on this board. That your assumption that workers who are in those positions are some how beneath an level of intellegence that you hold is astounding.

Where do you not only feel qualified to make these statements but also have the credentials to back them up.

I do HR and if I interviewed you what makes you assume you would hold court and favour with me for a position.

Your classification of people is astounding and disturbing. More so as it is dismissive of a whole sector of the population that does not deserve your disdain. Where do you get off with your classification of skills and the defining line of what is marketable and what is not.

By the way my first degree is a number cruncher and my second is a people fixer.

I rarely feel negatively towards any views or posts or even posters but I am astounded by your views.

It's better to have a job flipping burgers and paying your own bills than to live at home with Mommy and Daddy and turn your nose up at the minimum wage jobs. It's way better to make $7.25 an hour than $0 an hour. I may be a little off topic here, but you're glorifying "technologically advanced" jobs and I want to point out that holding a customer service job does NOT mean a person is stupid, nor does it place you on a higher pedestal than them. We are all just working to stay alive, and we are all humans. No one is on a "level above everyone else." I get so fucking sick of being disrespected and looked down upon because of where I work and what I do for a living when I make a DAMN good living all things considered and live independently. I also have carried a whole business on my shoulders for years now and kept it running smoothly and efficiently. The only thing that makes me hate my job is people treating me like I am a lower lifeform because I cook at a fast food joint. I'd like to see anyone who hasn't worked in my position handle cooking for a team of 50 girls and all their fans and families with one fryer. :bomb:
