I was heading home on my bike around 3.30 am (my time), like a 40 min. drive but I had good music in my earphones so that wasn't too bad. When I was a little more than halfway home I noticed a bird lying still in the middle of the street, so I stopped and went back to check it out. It was sort of twitching and stuff, in the same spot, so I figured it must have been hit by a car. I hesitated for a moment but thought "Aww, gotta do something about it" so I walked over to it and when I was pretty much within reach, it took off and flew away, I watched it fly off the road. That was quite a relief, I was glad I didn't have to mercy-kill it, at least I figured it was nature's problem now. But when I was back on my bike and ready to continue my journey home, I looked over my shoulder and saw what must have been the same bird once again in the middle of the street, just a little further down the road. This made me freak out a little. A bird with a death-wish? I went back for it once more, stopped right next to it and thought of WTF to do. It looked like it had injured it's right wing badly, probably hit by a car. Finally I decided to pick it up, (it must have been in bad shape or else it wouldn't have allowed me to), yeah, I picked it up and then like a second or two later it broke free and took of again, once more I watched it fly off the road and into the surrounding vegetation. I got back on my bike and went home. End of story. But I am still wondering if it was aware of it's injury and just wanted to end it all? I quite sure that it will not survive anyway with a wounded wing but I'm glad I didn't have to solve the situation. I don't think I could have summoned the guts to do it.
aw this is kinda sad, poor little birdie!! I had a suicide bomber bird fly (i think on purpose) right into my windshield. funny thing was that i never saw the bird or any feathers, nor was it on the ground anywhere and it wasnt stuck up in the car anywhere.
