So I had my prejudge about these.. but a great friend of mine, kept insisting that I should read them, they are good, not like the movie. And well because I have this weird liking about Vampires.. I said allright. So I started with book number one, as u are suppose to. Interview with the Vampire. I became addicted to it, I couldn't let go until I finish it. I was drown in this world of such intense feelings, then I went on with The Vampire Lestat, I liked it.. I mean I like him, his character.. he's so .. him.. but I think I related a lot more with Interview, there are more feelings in that one.. and Vampire is more of history. You become aware of things. Now I just started Queen of the Damned. One of the thing I like is how the characters change trough time, I mean it really shows how much people can change, they live more time they change more. I realized this in in the second book, and on the first pages of Queen of the Damned. Lestat says something like "we don't change trough time, we become more what we truly are".. and I was, like yeah, this is true. They are actually good.. the movies don't do justice to them.
Yeah, the movies aren't nearly as good as the books. Anne Rice is such a fantastic writer. I actually saw the Queen of the Damned movie before I read the book. It's ridiculous how horrible the movie is and how great the book is. When I first read Interview, I just had to keep reading. So I went through the books rather quickly. Lestat is a great character. Out of the series, I'd say that Tale of the Body Thief is probably my favorite, although The Vampire Lestat is really good. They're all just such great stories.
i think this is the book(s) i have been trying to place for a while do they sense other's auras to tell whether they are humans or vampires? thats all i can really remember..
i used to be really really into these books for like three years but now im taking a break.Personally i found the book queen of the damned not to be that good.
the movies sucked compared to the books. quen of the damned is not even worth watching. However, the vampire armand was just a little too much for me. when it gets to the part where he rapes the chick and she thanks him, I put the book down and never picked it back up.
I love Anne Rice but her books are too draaaaaawn out. She should not be so descriptive. It would shorten her books by half.
I saw the movies first too. She has to be so descriptive, that's what makes them great, because you see the world trough the vampires eyes. I just started Queen Of the Damned.. so I dunno how is it. I was like that too.. reading the books rather quickly, just started with them like 2 weeks ago, and now im reading the third.
Queen of the Damned is probably my least favorite book. It's good because it fills in alot of the history of vampires and really fleshes out the world Anne Rice has created. But, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as any of her other books.
ive only read the first one, but it was so intense and romantic and sensual i couldnt stop thinking about it.
I am still reading the series I started them long ago. I have to take breaks from Anne Rice because she is way too descriptive & drawn out. I'm reading Vamipire Armand right now & it's so gay erotica. I'm not really into reading that kinda stuff so I'm not flipping through the pages these days in anticipation. My fave so far was Tale of the Body Thief. I also thought Queen of the Damned was awful.
Oh yeah, anyone else hear about the Broadway incarnation that they're working on? Apparently Elton John is doing the music and it'll be based on the first three books. Tentatively titled The Vampire Lestat. God knows if it will be any good, but I wouldn't mind seeing a Lestat musical.
i was the same in the respect that yrs ago i thought i would never read an anne rice book...last yr i read "The Witching Hour" and loved it so much...fell in love with the character of new orleans, and the whole history of the witches and talamasca...still have to read lasher. finished vamp lestat couple weeks back and am starting queen of the damned very soon...can't wait..then lasher.. i think it is just silly to say she should be less descriptive and ct the books in half. NO FUCKING WAY - i cherish every moment and if you actually pay attention to the description you will learn something and be taken somewhere beautiful. yes some books are shit cos they are too descriptive, but anne rice's work does not fit into this category...most classics are eloquently and fascinatingly descriptive..
I've read up 2 Memnoch the Devil, but I never finished it. My fave is "Interview" my least is "Queen". "Tales" was great 2 tho. My friend Becky's a huge fan-she's her fave author & had all her books, but others borrowed some & never returned them. But w/my help, she's got em all again now I do agree, I get lost in a lot of the wors she uses, but I read the parts I get & manage 2 get along ok.
The first i VEER read was Pandora and its still my fave Im suprised no one mentioned it. I also really liked Merick its like a mix between the vampire cronicles and the Whitch books she writes. It has the members of the Talamaska in it. Its very interesting
I have read a lot of Anne Rice books, and I liked most of them. My favorite, however, was definitely Interview With the Vampire. Has anyone read the Violin? I wasn't to impressed by this one.
I've only read up until Body Thief.. Although I've also read a bit of Mnemoch, and I'd like to get around to finishing that one day. @.@
Read the first three, embarking on Body Thief after exams are finished. I love them all, even Queen (though I think Lestat's my fave, but its a long time since I read Interview so not sure). I love the descriptiveness of her writing, it's fab. And people shouldn't be too suprised by the eroticism of some of the books, as Anne Rice also writes erotic novels under a pseudonym (SP?)
