Bush made it sound so simple didn't he. We drill more domestically, we pay less. Wasn't that the mantra.

One thing to remember, the company that drills oil in the US sells it to the highest bidder. There is no guarentee that it will be refined or used in the US.

There might be an argument for "drill now", if we were sure that it would be used in the US, but under current circumstances, I'd rather leave it in the ground so our kids can burn it.

Currently, oil prices have dropped below a point where some of these propositions are not economicaly feasible.

We can plan though; so that when the next price upswing takes place we might enact some of these ideas. The thought that these are on the back burner will dampen the speculation that ran up oil prices in 2008.

Coastal states can receive royalty revenue from offshore oil exploration.
In a world where New York State taxes i-pod downloads and New Jersey has put the Garden State Parkway up for sale, how long do you think they will hold off?

Let's move away from oil and solve this problem. For good.

What's wrong with nuclear power? It is clean and efficient. It was demonized to begin with (with help from big oil and the environ-mental crowd) so they could promote artificial scarcity and move us into this bogus "green" phase, where the government comes in to tax farmers for their farting cows and push for global carbon taxes that will do nothing to help the environment.

I used feel as you do Rat, but when Bush and McCain started pushing it I began to wonder...What's in it for them? And what protections will they build into the expansion of it. I haven't been able to discover if they have considered the longterm disposal of spent fuel, whether or not it's proliferation will include added safety measures, and who will be building and operating them. Until I have that information the long term liabilities of nuclear power far outweigh their advantages.

Gore and his market for carbon offsets is already considered part of the economic model, without taxing carbon emissions that market falls apart. The wealthy are already on that bandwagon.

I know our local dump already budgets in what they will make from offsets. Another scheme most voters seem unaware of, or have bought into the idea it's the only way to make big business operate with environmental concern. Which is a crock. Make it illegal, fine them when they emit too much, and perhaps they will clean up their act. My vehicle has to pass smog inspection every two years or be sold for salvage, I can't barter with my neighbor to run my car while he keeps his parked.

Why is it with oil at 35.00 a barrel, the price per gallon has gone up twenty cents in a week in my area?

I don't know, gardener. We're still paying $1.64 a gallon here. NoCA has always been her own animal.

    Ugh.

Nuclear power isn't clean nor is it efficient. It's not even renewable.

It is both clean and efficient. It is the cleanest and most efficient form of energy used at the moment.

Wind and solar energy alone do not have the potential to end the dependence on so-called "fossil" fuels.

The powers that be could easily end our dependence on all of the above if they wanted to by allowing for the development of free-energy technologies, but they cannot have that. They can only offer us their phony, overpriced "green" alternatives that are in fact designed to keep the people dependent on oil.

How is nuclear waste clean? How is higher cost power efficient?

The problem here is externalities - without a carbon tax, nuclear is unlikely to be competitive.

So now Pepik is pushing the globalists' carbon tax. What a surprise.

Sorry how does that explain why nuclear power is cheaper, as I asked?

Oh wait is doesn't, the problem is you can only talk about the conspiracy.

I find it surprising that you are a proponent of nuclear power. Go figure?
