All you need to do is:
    1) Remember the things that make you happy and let it soak in.
    2) Try to forget about things you have little/ no control over (that are frustrating and discouraging to you); with hopes that everything is going to be well in the future.
3)Always keep yourself busy and let life soak in as it comes along without trying to avoid anything; learning from mistakes and grasping every joyful moment like its your last.

    What do you guys think?

I feel nothing will work for everyone. I can't really relate to your method--- or any method; but what matters is what works for you.

Well to be honest at first when I was thinking about this it wasn't nearly as easy I thought... But this one time when I was experimenting with a mind altering substance, I came to a realization that it DOESNT make sense to live any other way. Everything matters. Nothing matters. It's all up to you.... I got fustrated when I realized I was always stressing and discouraged about stuff I had no control over, and the experiance was so profound and eye opening that it was simply imbedded in my brain and personality. It took time and paying close attention to lifes outcomes. I finally mastered just letting go of stuff that I have no control over and grasping all the good things and it reallly works like a charm. I've been happy and relaxed for a really long time now. Definitely a lifestyle or an approach towards life to consider ;)

Let me know what you guys think.
I definitely agree that "it's whatever works for you".

I think part of my issue is that I've been brainwashed by societal standards on what is supposed to make me happy, that now I don't know what truly makes me happy.

How do I know what makes me happy?
How do I know what I want to do or not do?

On the other hand, I am much more content when I keep myself busy. ... Or maybe I'm not truly content -- maybe keeping busy just helps me forget.

I don't think it's keeping yourself busy, isn't that avoiding your problems?

I think it's dealing with any problems you have and any insecurities you have. Make yourself someone you would be proud of and happy with. If you can be 100% honest with everyone about yourself and not have to feel any shame, then that is happiness.

In this process you have to accept bad things you've done in your past as things that happened, but you've moved on from them. But you can talk about them openly because it's all a part of what made you a better person today.

I think it's a lot of self-searching and when you find inner happiness and peace you will also find it in the world.

[EDIT] Also you have to accept that you will die, and you'll never know when. Accepting that as fact will give you a more positive outlook, you will try to enjoy each day that you have. It's one of Buddha's teachings.

There is of course a lot more to these processes but you have to find what method works for you. Finding inner peace and a clean concience is the most important and difficult step to me. But the more I clean my concience the happier i am.

There is no "secret" per se , IMHO, no verbal set of instructions you could follow and make yourself happy as if by magic push of the botton

There are many factors that play role in your life, many out of your control, some within

    Outcome of interplay of all those forces is your current condition;
how you sense and reflect on your condition is also dependant on many different factors which likewise are outcome of the similar interplay of forces

The seemingly simple instructions on how to get happy quick are not really helpful and often result in deeper depression once the gullible person tries it and finds out that it doesn't really produce expected results.

There is no simple cure for all, never was and never will be.

Obviously there's no set of instructions that you can follow. But those were like guidelines or a sense of direction, towards living happier. I believe that when a person truely learns how to let go of things they have no control over that puts them in a bad mindset, it can do BIG things for them. However, achieving this is not easy.

Also, if this point of understanding truely clear to the person and is practiced then there that much closer to achieving this. From this point of "achievment", I believe living a happy life, isn't difficult.

    Cheers

I also would like to add this. People need to stop attracting themselfs to things that keep them from being happy. I noticed that people find it easy to CREATE; yes, they create, situations that can easily cause an outcome that keeps them from being happy. For example, you dont want your freinds to think your all about bringing people down, and that your all about being negitive. Than stop creating situations that makes them think that. Keep track of what your doing, try to visualize yourself in THIRD person and then you can almost understand why people think the way they do. Its all because thats the impression you brought on yourself; and if thats the type of stuff that makes you sad, than dont bring out "signals" for people to get the wrong impressions. It takes one minute of understanding/ recognition to change something for the better. Obviously its easy to just not change anything and stay the way you are. But WHY?! why not try to change for the better?! IT IS possible to change many things for te better to a point where there arent many things that make u sad/ annoy you any more. IT IS possible to be happier more than non-happy. To be more Relaxed vs. stressed.

let me know what you think,

this is a very good thread hebrew, very good indeed.

you're clearly someone who is interested in getting everything they can out of life and sharing the knowledge you've gained with others.

i do agree with you on all points, but to add on to what you've said:

what helps me stay centered and happy is to remind myself of the vastness of the universe and what a small part in it i have to play. I tell myself it's self centered to obsess about how much money i have, or how many material things im missing when they are millions of people in the world who would kill for the leftover food i throw away or the clothes that i wear everyday.

i also remind myself of the rarity and preciousness of life. i mean, think about it. .
our planet was created by no more than sheer circumstance. and slowly but surely things started falling into place and Earth was able to support life. then through millions and millions of years of evolution human beings were created. then, out of the millions of other lifepaths that your parents could have chosen, they both chose paths that would eventually lead to eachother, and would ultimately, lead to you. How crazy/random is that when you think about it? how lucky are all of us that we were all born when the chances of it happening were 1 to 1,000,000?

a wise man once said, "shit happens." no matter who you are or what your situation, life is tricky, but, contrary to popular belief, this life maybe all we have. and its important to figure out for yourself what matters to you and what makes you happy and fill your world with these things.

"choose the world you want to live in a watch it appear all around you." <~ thats a Richard Bach quote, or a variation of it anyway :)

I have said it before and will say it again the world is how you perceive it

Positive outllok will make you feel positive abouy everything

Seriously for the first little bit it will seem gimicky and weird to look at everything as good and you'll just think to yourself "This is stupid im just hollowly trying to convince myslef its better than it is" but after a while it really starts to become your mentality.

I know it sounds weird now but im kinda typing this while short on time so il elaborate later

Have faith within your being to always be on the path of light.
Have hope in everything that crosses you're journey, it's getting better all the time.
and love, everything there is, we all coexist here on mother Gaia together.

That is my main belief.. though my next greatest theory on life.. is...

    A 5 gallon bucket,
    a pencil,
    a pair of tweezers,
and 3 feet of nylon hose

Random, makes any sense.. no.. it doesn't have too, but weren't those five/ten seconds of thinking of random objects, bring you're mind to a complete stop of all the worries, inquire-re's, and judgments that you're inner dialog makes? Ha.. life is wonderful when you're confused.. the faces and responses I get when ask people random things...

also, it's good to stay clear of the jinkum's...

    Loving all,
    Trails
