Timothy Leary wrote this book based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead. I picked it up this weekend. Anyone heard or read it before? I just started it.

I have the Leary book, but I have not read it yet, as I am still trying to read the Tibetan Book of the dead. I thougt it might help to read the book Leary was commenting on and comparingth psycedelic experience too. But the TBOTD is rough for me somehow, I have to analyze everything and that requires rereading.

I haven't read the actual Tibetan book, but I think the Egyptian Book of the Dead pre-dates it, it's one of those timeless narratives adopted through many many cultures. You can read Leary without prior (extensive) knowledge of the historical texts. I think it's a fantastic piece of writing for anyone who wants to use psychedelics responsibly.

No thats true, you don't have to have any previous knowledge, but considering Leary wrote this particular book based on the Tibetan Book of the dead, I thought it would be good to read it beforehand so I can have a feel for what Leary was trying to compare the psycedlic experience throuhg, both through my own interpretation as well as his. Its a very interesting idea, a trip compared with the life cycle of a human.
