Ok, I just saw the play hair and I had no clue it was so old...or the it was going to be so good. I fell in love, now I want to convince my school's drama department to do it's own production of it, wish me luck with that. What I want to know is how other's feel about this spectiacular production?
It's obvious I love it but how do you all feel?

    I love the play!
Great tunes, and there is alot for a theater group to do with it in terms of performance. The nude scene is optional, even for the original casts, and is often left out for more family viewing.

I havent seen the movie, but hear its alot different, and even the authors didnt care for how it worked as a film.

Its a great play about the scene in New York. When speaking of the 60s, there seems to be three main places that get mentioned, New York, London, and Frisco. Its a good view into how the east coast hippies were thinking, and it says alot about todays politics too. I dig it!

I looovove HAiR! I was in a teen production of it two years ago (at the tender age of 15). It was probably the best experience of my life, and I really learned a lot about myself as a person... because of HAiR, I was able to come out as bisexual to most of my friends, as well as be more open about my political/social opinions. We had schedualed "bonding days" for some rehearsals, so we could get a sense of each other and really form a family. We researched the 60s like crazy to get all our facts correct, made protest signs, and helped each other with costumes/jewelry, things like that. It was such a community-based production. We danced in the aisles, got the audience into it... it was so magical. And the ending was heart-wrenching for all of us, every night.

So yeah. I love it, and highly recommend it to anyone who's into good music and the whole 60s scene. The movie, although different, is still excellent, and c'mon, who doesn't wanna see Treat Williams dancing bare-chested on a table?

Yeah, folks talk to me that have only seen the movie with all this plot and lose me! Im thinkin, that wasnt in the play I saw... oh well. They never envisioned it as a movie, and once it was made they didnt have much control over what happened to it. The play makes it more real to me, draws me in to the story way more than any movie.

The production I saw started with half the hippies sitting in the audience, and wandering onstage to take their roles during the first few mins of the play. Very tasty, as it broke the boundary between audience and performer right away. I dug the concept and it worked well. The only thing, they were actors and looked it when they got close. Being a bit of a hippy myself, it seemed obvious Woof was wearing a wig!lol

I quote this play often, and get strange looks from people. Not enough people have seen this play!

folding the flag is putting it to bed for the night.....

Hair was pretty good. Everyone should know about this play.

I saw Holly Near at one of the Kent State commemorations. She was one of the cast in NYC. She mentioned that they got the news about the Kent shootings during a performance. She addressed the crowd at the commemoration and sang a few songs. She's been an activist through her years.
