It was interesting to see the response about Piggly Wiggly. I live in Southern California where the stores are named Ralphs, Vons, Albertons. The upscale markets are Bristol Farms, Gelsons and Whole Foods. There's also Trader Joes (which is all over it seems).

We have some low cost low end stores too such as the Ranch Market, 99 Ranch and ValuMart. The less expensive stores tend to cater to an ethnic market. Then there are also some people who shop at Costco and LOOK like they live and eat industrial size portions.

Our local store is Dick's market. If I go into the city, there is a bunch of stores, including: Albertsons, Hy-vee, Bakers. When I go to the health food places we have Wild Oats, and they just opened a Whole foods, but I haven't been there yet

Publix, Albertsons, Winn-Dixie, and Whole Foods..

In DC we had Giant, Safeway, Food Lion, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes.

I am probably forgetting some, but those are the main ones.

we've got Kroger, which is our version of Albertsons. And also Marsh. In fact Kroger cards and Albertsons cards will work at either store. We've got safeway..... which is slowly but surely going to be out of business. Walmart's taking over big time here. Seems like the regular walmarts are almost all gone and now they're all "Supercenters" which have groceries and obviously the other normal walmart bullshit.

Kroger, Safeway, Wal-Mart. Nearest health food store is Beans and Grains and Things. This is almost 50 miles away. We had some mom and pop type stores but the big box stores drove them under. So now, we just have to take what is offered. Before if you liked a product the couple that ran the grocery in Greenbrier would get and keep it for you. However, nobody can compete with bulk buying and slave labor.
