The most ignorant gay question, imo

"Which ones the top and which is the bottom?' Or even worse: "Which is the man and which is the woman?"
Now, mind you we've all had this query from breeders, but I'm talking about when it's posed to you by other gays! Unbelievably ignorant. Are my bf and I the only truly versatile people in the gay world? Sometime he feels like one thing, sometimes the other, sometimes we're side by side...and last time I checked we're both men...

I'm pretty versatile, the whole idea of having to chose whether you're a top or bottom just puts me in another closet, I all ready came out of the closet why be stuck in a closet within a closet?

Not all couples do anything anyone else may do and the assumption by other supposed gays that we do is insulting. I don't know any straight couples that quiz each other so much on sexual practices and preferences, why is it such a matter of interest for gays? haven't we moved beyond that point?

 

i'm completely versatile as well and i never got why some guys limit themselves to either just top or bottom but i guess it's their thing.

it isn't an issue with straight couples because in female-male sex there's only one possibility: male as top and female as bottom. but when there's just guys then either of them could do both. and because there are guys who do limit themselves to just one sexual role that's what prompts the question, i think. also, guys are more interested in sex and talk about it more freely than women so in all-male company sex is more likely to pop up as a subject of conversation than in straight couple discussions.

but to phrase it as "which one's the woman and which one's the man" that's really stupid. both are men and to put it like that is just plain mocking or ignorance in my opinion.

 

I think it's mostly the common person trying to understand something better, that eventually as with everything was twisted into what it is now....just my guess

I dunno, honestly, it's probably about 50-50. I don't think it's particularly ignorant for someone to believe that it's common for gay people to be dividable into tops and bottoms, since the media and a lot of gay people seem to openly support the idea. Even if a person isn't a "total top", they'll still quite often be either a top or a bottom depending on the person (i.e. if they top for a person once, they'll probably top for the same person next time, etc.).

It's fun to pick two guys at random and try to decide which one would be the "top" if they had sex though. e.g.
