If you had to choose one industry or invention that would be classed as the greatest hi-tech achievement of the human race what would it be?

forget its utilitarian value - think of its genius value

I would say "the particle accelerator" and computers

Look up the "Z Machine" from Sandia National Laboratory. It is absolutely kick ass.

    Cell phones.

In order for them to work, there is the electronics, the computers, the satilites. If you look at the required support sytems, cell phones.

I just checked on that z machine is it some kind of joke ??

The z machine not only pulverises diamonds with high pressure but can cause nuclear fusion while bouncing laser of crystals that only reflect one band of light and it also calculates image refraction in a liquid for students - ha ! this is the all singin all dancin machine - its a computer - a pressure cooker, a car , a washing machine and a fusion reactor rolled into one
