I had read about the 'Maharshi effect' (named after Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) which I found quite insightful and would like to cover it over here...

    Maharishi Effect | Research

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has created a term for this process with respect to Transcendental Meditation, namely the 'Maharshi effect.'

I used to read and hear about how meditation produces positive vibrations and positive energy fields which changes the attitude and behavior of those who come under its influence, for the better.

I have similarly practically experienced spontaneously blissful states in such positive energy fields created by proficient meditators. Such an environment is also conducive to higher states of consciousness through meditation without much effort.

Spiritual master Amit Ray has also stated in this regard, “It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters.”

In a village next to mine, there lived a female enlightened master in the last century. This region, in comparison to other regions have a very low crime rate and low incidence of natural disasters which people attribute to the master's grace. Even now one can still feel the positive vibes and auspiciousness over this place and it is now a popular tourist site as well.

I think if a certain percentage of society practices meditation or other auspicious spiritual exercises, it will have a beneficial effect on the rest of the population and surroundings as well leading to better holistic outcomes.

    Spread the good vibes!
If criminals are meditating, they're not committing crimes, except maybe plotting the next one?

There's another effect I find fascinating that nearly everyone ignores, especially people analyzing stats.

As I mentioned in the previous post, it's possible that doing something positive has positive effects simply because you're not doing something negative. Like meditating instead of committing a crime.

Another example: if you say drinking water instead of soda is a healthy thing to do, obviously it's not that the water is healthy in and of itself, it's simply that soda is more harmful. By not drinking soda, you're getting the actual benefit.

In this situation it's more a case of "not doing" something negative rather than "doing" any specific thing.

In an extreme example, if everyone on Earth was either doing zazen (not doing) or sleeping, there would be peace on earth, no?

So is this the meaning behind the Zen "not doing" concept? Is there a term for this effect?

    Very Probable.

Central Jersey is experiencing immigration from Buddhist Indians.
The calm demeanor and outgoing friendliness stands in contrast to the wound-up, aggressive, native Jersey Anglos.
Whether it is behind the counter of their store; or on warehouse floor, the calming presence is always welcome.
The large Temple, near the warehouse, in Robbinsville, is a triumph of spiritual and artistic endeavour.
I work with many Jain. At first, the swastika threw me off. But then I got educated, realising that it is an ancient Sanskrit symbol from the Bronze Age.

Whether I may receive a higher state of consciousness is a bit of a stretch.
I'm thankful for the good friends encountered.

It is these very Immigrants who suffer from Trumps tariffs. Artisanal garments for the Indian market. Personal decoration and imported foods.

Price of curry on the rise...
Not to mention the basmati rice to accompany the curry.
