Just watching a documentary on this, basically the idea that we can just nip out to the shops and buy whatever we want, when we want is coming to an end. Food costs for the average family int he UK shot up by about £750 last year, and it is still rising. I think we are going to face serious food shortages in our lifetimes in the western world. Everyone who eats meat will have to start eating lentils.
1. this is mostly because of petroleum prices 2. and price manipulation. 3. and the price manipulation of petroleum. we could honestly feed everyone on earth relatively cheaply in relatively small space, with less resources. the only problem is, that would eliminate jobs, money being made by all kinds of middle men, and it would make it so all those impoverished people could get food too (oh my, what a disaster) it's not because of overpopulation, it's not because of some horrible disease or famine, it's because of greed. it's our fault.
As long as my ramen noodle days are over, I'm alright... Food prices here are pretty high now. But, if many Americans cut back on prepackaged and junk food, & cooked more... Their food budget would probably even out. They'd spend less, burden the healthcare system less, & require less fabric yardage to cover themselves with.
which is only a problem because cheap energy wasn't solved 20 years ago for greed reasons. set up geothermal power stations near the ocean (gee, where the crust is super thin, and there is a lot of geothermal activity) hook said geothermal plant up to a desalination plant pipe desalinated water inland use water that would be going to the places inland (that now have desalinated water) for agriculture. YAY!!!!!! oh, wait, it's too expensive because people manipulate the fuck out of pricing of things you'd need for that SHIT!
The future of Food- search results, for anyone interested... http://www.google.com/search?client...ture+of+food&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Maybe later, or tomorrow for me. I don't want to be bummed out right now. I spend too much time in that state already.
Well, it does not REQUIRE 300 ml of oil, the most profitable\cheapest method to grow a tomato takes 300ml of oil (actually the petrochemicals, mostly nitrogen fertilizers, derived from that oil) it takes less than a third of that to do it hydroponically and none to do it organically (although you do have to get your nitrogen from somewhere else) and of course your phosphorous, and your potassium, among other things your tomatoes need.
The majority of the world's food production is under the control of five agri-food businesses. That explains the food shortages, which are deliberate. They want to do the same with water, buying up all the rights to the underground aquifers, so they can charge enormous rates. If you can control the food and water, you can control the people.
Yeah and when it happens, everyone who eats too much meat will start on the veggie stuff, and then there'll not be enough for everyone.
Yes, and the people will get the toxic GMO crap. The elite get the real thing. That's why they have seed vaults up in the arctic.
Population Control and a World Food Authority http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=25230 In case anyone wants to immediately shrug this off, be advised it comes from their own documents. This was all planned back in the 70s.
