Lady Nancy Astor and Sir Winston Churchill were famous political rivals and they liked to exchange of insults. And according to one account from that time they were at a party and the conversation went like this: "If I were your wife, I'd put poison in your coffee." "Lady, if you were my wife I'd drink it."
There was another famous Churchill comment from one of his drunken exploits at a dinner party as well. The conversation between him and a rather stuck up woman went as follows; "Sir you are drunk!" "Madam, you are ugly, but in the morning I shall be sober!"
