Ok, so there have definitely been far more uncomfortable situations that people have been in, for sure...but still this one is still pretty uncomfortable (at least to me).

The deal is, I'm 22 and my father has been with his 21 year old girlfriend for a couple years now. She recently had a beautiful daughter whom I love. Obviously it's a little bit strange that my father is with someone who's younger than I am, and that they now have a child.

I've pretty much gotten over all my hangups on that though. The thing that's bothering me now, is her family (parents, and siblings). She has like 5 or 6 brothers and sisters, and one or 2 of them have families of their own. The thing that bothers me is that I don't even know their names. I've met them several times before and they're all quite nice. But I've never been good with names, and I'm ashamed and embarassed that these people are like my in-laws now, and I don't even know what to call them!

Also, nice as they all are, they're different kinds of people than myself and my family. How to put it...not screwed up and dysfunctional? :)

I guess I'm not necessarily asking for advice here, as there's pretty much only one way to resolve this (grab the bull by the horns and learn their names one way or another), but just venting more than anything...any words?

My dad always sketches out a family tree after meeting new groups of people.

Seriously. He sits with one or two people and says, Ok, John is married to Cindy, and Cindy has a sister (name filled in by person helping) married to Raj and they have two daughters, ..... and so on.

you have to make the effort with names. It will be a couple uncomfortable, "Hi I'm Rob, I'm so and so's son, and I'm sorry but I forgot your name?" moments.
