Okay...I have been watching the news and listening to the radio last night about the election. Right now from as I understand it is a really close race, but as most of us know Bush is more than likely going to come out victor in this election. Hubby and I have a main concern of the draft. We are both 21 and know we are not the only ones who do not plan on goin if THE MAN comes a callin. We were wondering what was goin on with communes and if anyone had a plan to go underground? We are not alone in this and we are all family and must join together. Peace and Love my brothers and sisters. ~Laurel
When I lived on the Canadian border at Earth Peoples park Commune in 1970 we had quite a few guys that came through, would stay and party a couple of days then slip quietly across the border through the woods. Alas, I think the Canadian policy on conscientious objectors is a bit different these days. If I were 21 here is what I would start doing right now...get rid of all debt immediately...your paper trail for outstanding debts needs to stop. Find a way to live dirt cheap...a one bedroom apt. in a smaller town....this will allow you to each work part time then you can try to stay under the minimum tax reporting status ie..stop paying taxes. I have not paid taxes for quite a few years now. Consider moving out west...Idaho, North dakota, Western Montana,,close to a heavily wooded state forrest....if they come around..head for the hills. Go online and do a search for books that explain how to drop out of society...the more you know the better.(how to change names etc.) You could contact "the Farm" in Tenn. or Twin Oaks in Va. 2 communes that are still around(I think) from the old days. You could also start reading Backwoods Home Magazine, they have a column in there for people who want to work on farms for room and board or be caretakers. This is about all I can come up with right now, but if I were you I would start gathering information right now. Who knows which way the wind will blow???? Not me, but I do know that there is a stench that will probably get alot stronger, Good Luck to you, love, teepi
i am going to fucking fight! now is the time more than ever and my spirit is on fire! who is with me?!
Consider it this way. Bush is going to screw up the US so bad that the government may very well collapse,so if you're an anarchist it's probably good news.
happily , kind new thoughts really are rose colored , so keep your glasses on and your attention focused . you will see them , humbly become them . the revolution is now , and is our collective , loving , life necessity .
Hi Laurel, Have to agree with both Lama and Tikoo. The way things are going it's almost better to face the music and get the shit over with. The way mankind is now, they won't change unless something traumatic comes up and smacks em good - puts their collective nose right in the shit they've been spewing forth, wasting our precious planet. Like Teepi says - get out of debt - fast. Inflation will be hard on the heels now that the banks know that the borrow & spend policy will be continued - so if you don't want to pay back many more fold - get off the wagon of debt. Got to take that advice myself. The rose colored glasses you must keep on is to find your dream - your vision - what gives you fire personally and together as a couple and GO for it. Don't let the ills of society keep you from fulfilling the reason you came here on this plane. Yeah we'll learn no matter what - but wouldn't it be nice to learn what We want and not reel from crisis to govement inspired crisis. Keep your focus and intent pure. And be true to your (higher) Self. The best way to fight the system is to not let them keep us from making this a better world by fulfilling our dreams and Honoring all our Connections (relations). How we react IS up to us. Blessings on your Way.
laurel i am with you, i think we need to come together and do something...... fat chance of that happening with the way people are today but i guess it is time for me to get back on my feet and then get hidden if worst comes to worst!

This may answer some of your questions. http://nt.mortgage101.com/partner-scripts/1177.asp?p=mtg101 its a calculator to see if owning or renting is better for your situation. I've always said owning is better, when you rent you are at someone elses mercy and whims. There are tax breaks if you pay taxes. There are ways to pay down a mortgage sooner than the traditional 30 years and when rates aredown you can refinance. But everyone is diferent. Larry and I lived in a tiny little apt. for a few years and were able to sock away his entire pay every week. We sacrificed, we went out to eat once a month, we borrowed books, cd's and movies from the library for our entertainment. We ate alot of rice and beans. We put a down payment on our land within 3 years, and busted our asses to build a house ourselves, clearing land, digging a well, grading out a driveway etc. Hard work but worth it. We have a land payment but it is 167 a month, cheaper than we could live anywhere else and we are making extra payments to pay it off soon. good luck, teepi
Ok, I have been very depressed all day, but have been trying to think of positive things to do. Number one is getting out of debt completely, that includes the mortgage. For me, going to Canada or some other place is not really an option, I would rather stay and fight for the country I used to know. I told my oldest dd (age 20) tonight that if she decided to go to Canada I would help her any way I could. Increased political action is absolutely on my list of things to do. I am going to check out Code Pink and Mothers Against Military Madness. Also I am going to stop, as much as possible, the consumption. We have always lived a simple lifestyle, but now I have a new purpose. I see it as a quiet act of defiance since as Americans we are encouraged to consume, consume, consume. It will also help us pay off our debts faster, that is where true freedom lies.
