Gaia is plagued by a disease, It is obliterating her appendages, It is massacring her children, It is changing her chemical being, It is leaving unsightly marks, abrasions, and swellings on her body What is this powerful force destroying Gaia? What is responsible for the desecration of this living organism we call Planet Earth?... The human being.
I liked how you had a twist at the end, and maybe, just maybe you caught the reader by surprise...in that, they thought Gaia was a human... nice twist, but i saw it coming.
Gaia is actually the Greek godess of the earth, so a twist was not intended. I was hoping to personify earth as a living organism for two reasons. One, because that is how I personally view earth. And two, because it directs more compassion from the reader towards the subject matter. Thank you for the feedback on the poem, it is much appreciated.
