I've read it...I read it last spring actually, and I cannot remember who that was. Oh, actually, I think she was somebody's servant. The Putnam's, I believe, and one of Abigail's little group, I'm guessing.

i decided to become unlazy for a sec and google it

    this is me:

Mercy Lewis- Servant to the Putnam household. She is a merciless girl who seems to delight in the girls' activities. The threats Abigail uses on the other girls are unnecessary for Mercy. When Abigail eventually leaves town, Mercy goes with her.

I read it for english class. We learned all about the McCarthy period and such. It was fun, because I'm a dirty commie.

I'm sorry I'm of no real help but I just felt like saying that the Crucible was a very terrible piece of writing.

We had to preform the crucible in drama during high school. That was the play that broke my spirit for acting. I played Thomas Putnam (being a chick was no handicap)

The play itself really appealed to me. The whole time period, events, theme etc. And I write footnotes like Miller did :)
Keep meaning to read it again.

yeah it is really really good. it's tragic.
i had to do it too for drama, it's all about the salem witch trials and people in love and hate etc... for those who don't know.
at least, i think thats the book everyone's talking about ....

The play's actually an analogy for McCarthyism in the 50's. Miller used the witch trials as a parallel to show how corrupt demagoguery is, and how many innocent lives were ruined based on societal fear and a lack of real evidence. Not particularly my favorite read, but it's an amazing historical piece.

This is a story I rather watch the movie then read it. The movie I thought was a lot better, reading it just made me want to go to sleep.

i had to read that for english. i thought it sucked. the english teacher always makes me read stupid shit that i have already read. wow, and to think i have been wasting my time reading about abnormal psychology and forensic anthropology! no no, charles dickens and 'the crucible' are waaay more important.

Same here...just finished reading the book and are going to watch the movie next week. I enjoyed it, I liked it better than Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

The day I switched out of Junior Honors English was the day we started reading the Crucible..I wondered if it was any good, and if I was missing out on anything. The way the teacher described it, it sounded pretty interesting...and we got through part of the first act, I think. I might have to check it out again sometime...or at least watch the movie.
