The Christian Conservatives Have Really Done it Now

As most of you know, my state (Ohio), as well as multiple other states, recently passed Issue 1 - the "definition of marriage."

As most of you also know, this issue bans gay marriage. However, what almost everyone doesn't know is what other issue is hidden behind it.

While everyone here was, unfortunately, voting to ban gay marriages, they were also voting for one other little piece of legislation. That piece states that ONLY marriages carried out in a Christian church of God, by a follower of God, will be recognized by the state. Marriages by state government will no longer be recognized.

The Christian fundamentalists have done it again. They so cleverly hid this behind the gay marriage issue because they know that people here are so very homophobic. So now, in Ohio and other states, you basically cannot be married unless you are a heterosexual Christian.

That's crap. What ever happened to seperation of church and state? Marriage doesn't belong to Christianity, people are forgetting that. Why can't gay people get married by the government? Everything does not belong to Christianity, if it offends them why doesn't it offend the Jewish and the Greek? Do they not get married?

That is fucking ridiculous... In every peice of legislation that passes, there is tons of SHIT... Just think of all the shit we never even hear about, that is probably law now... I don't even see why the gay marriage thing was an issue.... If they don't want to marry homosexuals in a church, whatever... But why not a state marriage?? What fucking difference does it make? The government is so ridiculously fucking stupid...

Wait, I might be wrong, but I think that some of you missed something. It's not simply gays who cannot be married by the state, NO ONE can be. Heterosexuals, too, must be married in a Christian way to be considered "married by law."

I dont mind gay people and I believe in a civil union between the two so they can have rights and all, but why do they have to call it marriage. Do what the republicans want and things will go well. I do not believe it is horrible that Bush is in office. I did not vote but i am not complaining either. I hear alot of antibush talk from people over eighteen, When i ask if they voted they usually say no. If you are over eighteen and did not vote you have no right to complain about who won. This is our corrupt democracy my friends, no small group of the population that is different will ever be happy because people will always show the democracy of it with majority ruling. SO i respect the Ban on gay marriages because I have come to realize that in this democracy whatever the majority wants happens and if not, its out the door even if it hurts nobody. If there is more heterosexual population that does not want gays to marry than there are gays who want to marry, and the families of america want this not to happen for morality reasons then I can tell you that I support them. "Humans are not dogs we recieve some dignity as a people". and that is why drug use is illegal as well. I think that when gay marriage is legal, drugs will be widespread legal, we will be under a new more liberal system where you do what you choose then yes we would be in a better place. Until then Stop complaining

 

In my opinion, if any changes should have been made to the "definition of marriage," they should have been ones that removed religion from state-recognized marriages. Sure, let people have religious marriages, but keep that out of governement. People should be married by the state, not a church, to make it legal.

That makes sense to me, at least.
