Has anyone seen this movie?? The communal living that goes on in the movie is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. I wish to live somewhere like this!! Or on a commune so well organized. Everyone does their fair share of work, all sleeping in the same cabin together. Together as one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EJ1T0cf-Wk"]YouTube - The Beach Movie Trailer
the movie? BLAH!!! get a copy of the book.. it's by alex garland and read that. the movie makes it .. uumm.. more happy/fairytale-ish.. the book is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better and a lot different. it'll probably make you think more about the dynamics that really go into something like this.
Ya it ends up being terrible, but I don't necessarily mean the location and being unable to reach doctors etc. I just mean how it was organized other then the fact.
well, i've got just the place for you, lucky lady!: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?threadid=411283
On New Zealand, any expat can sample the kiwi life for two years on a path to residency. On Bermuda tech specialists are in high demand. The same holds true for teachers on Fiji.
The film makes it seem like the island was set up by a crazy control freak, willing to kill to protect her oasis (emphasis on her oasis). The thread about Island life, posted here, is going that way too. My diplomacy fell on death ears.
I really want to read the book. I enjoyed the movie up until the point where they made him guard the entrance to the island for a few days as punishment for leaving someone the map. He got into his little imaginary world and completely lost me; I thought that part was kinda dumb. I loved the scenery....god, what a beautiful island. A commune on an island like that certainly would be an idyllic dream. Wouldnt it get kind of incestuous after a while, though? So cut off from the outside world and new members being a rarity..so you've got the same guys and girls falling in love, breaking up, switching partners..sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
Nothing...honest. But... I was threatened with death unless three women were not provided for the island (or something like that). Basically I would have been killed. Now, that was not you, but island life was going down hill for me, for sure.
I loved the movie and after i saw it, it was the first time i gotten a complete idea of commune living....nevertheless living in an exotic area far removed from the conveniences of the 21st century would probably be too tough for me, but it's still nice to pause and ponder about =)
